So picked up an X-H1 with grip and a Fuji XF 35mm f/1.4 lens.

Still getting to know the camera...first impressions are good.

Analog controls and the premium build/feel on both the lens and camera are fantastic.

It's a great camera at a great price right now. I may be interested in the eventual X-H2 end of next year if I can afford it.

I hadn't used my little X-M1 since I bought the X-T20 at the beginning of the year, so when I had to head into the city centre last night to run some errands I decided to take it with me and give it some exercise. It reminded me that it has superior rendering to the X-T20 for night shots and in B&W mode. The B&W mode on the X-M1 is better than the B&W or Acros modes on the X-T20, producing a more film-like rendering to images.

These were taken with the 18mm f/2.

That's very interesting. I haven't noticed that the high-iso difference, but then again have not been shooting in B&W.
Now that I have been doing some Capture One processing of my old X-E1 images, I have also noticed the colour rendering appears to be better.

The Acros B&W mode was talked up a lot on the newer cameras and I'm a fan of the Acros film, so I expected it to be better, but I find the B&W mode (and not necessarily only at high ISO) on the X-M1 to be really great. Note how deep the backs are - lesser cameras/B&W jpeg modes would try to raise the light and produce a lower-contrast, higher-noise image but the little M1 leaves pure black as pure black and produces great grey tones in the rest of the image.

Started with one, have two now, both w/ grips. One permanently in a vid rig, the other for stills where print size will be 30 X 40 or less, web.... Will also be after the X-H2 when they are released into the wild if it maintains the same physical size (not smaller). Still enjoy the K1's for larger print needs.

Cheers,

RM-
