I saw that Tokina seem to be re-branding some Viltrox lenses and releasing them for Fujifilm, which is great news for me, though I have to admit I'm dubious about buying a lens from a new Chinese manufacturer. That Tokina is willing to release them under their name is somewhat reassuring, though I'm not sure if they'll be simply re-branded or if the coatings and housings will be different (ala Pentax & Tokina).

I was recently debating whether to get the FA 43 or a Fujinon 50/2 and in the end went with the FA lens and will wait until the Tokina is available and probably get the 56mm f/1.4 if it's shown to be good, though with the current CV situation it's likely to be delayed. The Fujinon is a little too short and a little too slow to be perfect, 56/1.4 should be perfect to give me a fast prime longer than my 35/1.4.

What are others' opinions on these new lenses?
Thanks ... this is good to know about Tokina.

I bought a 7Artisans 35/1.2 just before I found a super nice used XF 35/1.4 at my local B&M shop. I never really put the f/1.2 through its paces in a correct manner. I would like to get out, but we are on CV lockdown in France ... and my wife doesn't now even want me to go out and get the baguettes. If the sun comes back soon, maybe some garden images for here as f/1.2 samples.

I've never really used the 23mm for anything this close but, like the 35/1.4, image quality becomes somewhat dreamy at these distances. This is stopped down to f/4 where the dreaminess has gone.

How are you finding it? I have to say I've been tempted and I already have the f/1.4, but the f/2 is supposed to be faster-focusing, it's also lighter and smaller.

Superb.

I haven't received it yet but I mostly got if for video and the smaller f2 primes are supposed to have much better AF over the 1.4 versions. I've been quite happy with the 50mm f2 for both video and pictures but it's a bit tight at times. The 56mm f1.2 has a very nice rendering for images but almost useless for video unless you wanna manual focus. I have a feeling that the 35mm f2 is gonna be a similar situation. I should have it by Thursday hopefully.

Ah, I thought that the images from your previous post had been taken with the 35mm.

My god are they gorgeous and you found some nice light to make that clear.
BTW do you still use your K1 or do you do everything with your Fujis these days and why? Just curious.

Thanks. I still have my K-1 and use it occasionally. I mostly shoot with either my Fuji X-T3 or X-T30 mostly because of the amazing eye AF and faster burst rates plus I do some video from time to time which is much better on the Fuji system. If the AF still worked on my Pentax 85 1.4 I'd probably shoot with the K-1 more. Although I do miss Full Frame the X-T3 is really fun to use and files edit up pretty nicely once you get use to them. Wouldn't mind trying out the GFX 100 though

I understand. For me it is the other way round. Since I am in Studio most of the time I am using the K1 and 645Z but in your situation I would do the same. Fuji video is great to work with and the files are good enough too and easy to pp.
Maybe the new DFA 85 mm 1.4 is a temptation for you then?

I am interested in the new 85 1.4 but who knows when it will eventually come out and how expensive it will be.

Looking in from the outside of the X-mount ecosystem, there's a lot of appeal to something like a used X-T20 or X-T2 and the 27 f2.8. What are those combinations like for night and street shooting? I think the high-ISO performance of those two cameras is nigh-on identical. I like the size of the 27mm pancake but wish it was a full stop (or more) faster.... I don't know that I really have the free change in my pocket for such a purchase, so this is just idle chatter right now. The other option would be to get some M-mount manual glass that's faster but then I'd be dealing with never having AF and would miss out on communication between lens and body. 7Artisan's 28mm f1.4 or Voigtlander's 28mm f2 both look like good candidates. I really like that sort of focal length for crop bodies for general walk-about. It's too bad that Sigma didn't port their 30mm f1.4 DC DN to X-mount but them's the breaks. Thoughts?
