ok - comparison time

there had been some question as to the TT Artisan 50/1.2 ability to actually shoot at f1.2....

^^^ Nokton ^^^

^^^ TT Artisan ^^^

both are shot at f1.2

on the left is the X-T2 with the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f1.2 Aspherical, and on the right is the X-H1 with the TT Artisan 50mm f1.2

both shots are SOOC, with only a crop/level to give them as much the same field of view as possible....

and here again, same shots, with an equal amount of processing:

^^^Nokton^^^

^^^TT Artisan^^^

completely different characters...

the X-T2 is lighter and easier to carry, almost a light-hearted camera...

the X-H1 is truly a more serious camera, one you would use with consideration, with intent...
The hair - trigger ?

Viewfinder in them the same ?

Operate and take pictures basically the same ? X-t1, it can take pictures in the dark , basically .
Same in those ?

Shot Christmas Eve with XH1 with XF 50-140 , clearing all my memory cards while I work at home ,

Beast of a lens but I really like it so far
Have you previously used medium format film cameras ? Does it compare to them ?

I have used film medium format... I own a bronica and a Fuji 690. And yes it compares in some ways not in others . It is far easier to use though being a fully modern camera. The sensor is still smaller than a 645 film frame. And that means some differences in look. I rarely will take out the film ones but this I can see being a daily with the two lenses I have. It is smaller and lighter than the more expensive 50s (or the 645z etc) . Compared to many full frame it is slower ... but the sensor is 70% larger. The pending f1.8 lens will be a bokeh monster when it arrive

I see them one above the other, not side by side, so I suppose the top one is left (Nokton) and the bottom one is right (TT Artisans). If that's the case then the exposure on the TT Artisans one is slightly shorter (1/110s compared to 1/100s), which is a tiny difference but as the exposure looks identical it would suggest that the TT Artisans lens lets in very slightly more light, assuming lighting didn't change at all between the shots.

And just so I don't get accused of being here only to grill Pepperberry, here's a shot from me

X-T20 and 35/1.4 wide open

the trigger of the X-H1 is something you get used to; I've even learned where the half-press is on the shutter button....

viewfinder does seem to be the same - other than the grip and weight, it shoots just like the X-T2....

you're not the only person to question the veracity of the aperture on this lens - but sorry about the photos stacking themselves (it must be my monitor)....

I've edited the post so they are better defined/titled....

the only difference in shooting those shots was that both are at MFD, which is longer with the Voigtlander....

The Viltrox 56mm f/1.4 just arrived so I'll have the weekend to try it out, which is nice as I didn't expect it until Monday. My very quick first impressions:

1. The build is nice and solid, along the lines of the Fujinon 23/2 and feels better than the older 35/1.4 and 18/2
2. It's very sharp wide open, at least in the centre
3. The clickless aperture ring is less annoying than I thought it would be (but I've barely taken it off f/1.4 yet)
4. The minimum focus distance (60cm) is a bit on the long side
5. AF seems accurate and reasonably fast

A couple of initial test shots, wide open of course

Benjikan reviewed it and the 23 quite favourably though still preferred the Fuji 23 1.4 and 56 1.2, but did say the viltrox came quite close at half the price ...

Got my m42 to Fuji g adaptor this am tried it quickly with the 55 1.8 and the 105 2.8.
Looks like it will be fine with both those (wide open to 5.6 anyway.. haven’t done any serious shots or assessment
A quick shot to test the Smc105 f2.8 shot wide open
