Reviews of Vintage lenses on Fuji.

This reviewer has an abundance of vintage glass,Ive been watching him for a long time.

Just recently he has bought an X-T10 which is 2nd gen Xtrans(phase detect AF,but he doesn't AF!).His review style isn't typical of many other YTers.

One of my favourites.

Nope full 4:3 , the wider lenses all vignette to varying degrees but so far the 105 seems good. The 135 also
I have a Jupiter 9 with no aperture mechanism that is ok as well.
KenWheeler(read his free Ebook if you haven't already) has done some testing with his lens collection and reports good results from some. Please keep us informed of your exploration![COLOR="Silver"]

One day I will setup and do formal testing but I have never really been a brick wall shooter

Benjikan reviewed it and the 23 quite favourably though still preferred the Fuji 23 1.4 and 56 1.2, but did say the viltrox came quite close at half the price ...
I need to look further into the 23 but at this point it's very likely I'll get that too even though I already have the f/2 Fujinon. I use it a lot for indoors shots of my kids and the extra stop would be nice.

I'm in the same position for 56 and 23 as far as their Fujinon counterparts go - the Viltrox lens can be bought new for around half the price of a used Fujinon. That's a huge difference - I can get both of them new with two-year guarantee for the price of just one Fujinon and taking my chances that they'll be OK. It hurts a bit that my Fuji lens collection is no longer "pure" but the value for money can't be argued with and the f/1.4 Fujinons are well out of my budget except for the 35mm.

As for the 56, I've used it a bit more and updated the firmware. AF struggled a bit and the new firmware seems to have fixed that. I've had a few slightly out-of-focus shots but I'm shooting wide open with my standard half-press to focus then full press to take the shot and the delay between half and full press is enough at f/1.4 for the camera and/or subject to move out of focus.

Here are another couple of shots (wide open of course).

Jonathan thanks for sharing your thoughts and photos from the 56 1.4.

Just curious, did you ever own the DA* 55 1.4? If so, how would you compare it image quality and autofocus wise?

A fast 50-60mm and 20-23mm prime with quiet/silent motor is really what i am looking for. I am finding it hard lately to take discreet indoor candid's of the kiddos with my pentax screwdrive lenses

I do not have any native-Fuji lenses to compare it to, but I do have the DA* 55/1.4 - it's a wondrous lens, but the AF is slow.... there's no way to sugar-coat it.... it just is

The only time I've ever used the DA* 55/1.4 was a few years back in London, in an electronics shop where they had one on display with one of those curly security locks. I popped it on my K200D and took a few test shots around the shop. The Viltrox is significantly sharper wide open and with less colour fringing, that's all I can tell you. Personally, I wouldn't spend money on a first gen SDM lens like the DA* 55mm due to it's known slow AF and propensity for the AF system to fail entirely.

Regarding focal length, it will depend on the size of the house or flat, but I find 23mm or 35mm to be better for discrete photos of children, but in a larger abode 56mm may be fine. It's very likely I'll get the Viltrox 23mm f/1.4 in the very near future so if you want to wait a couple of weeks I can give some feedback on that too, but online reviews are just as good as they are for the 56mm. I currently have the Fujinon 23mm f/2 and it's a great little lens too, just a little slower than I would like.

23 is probably my favourite focal length on apsc. I own the Fuji’s and an x100t the 23 1.4 is one of my most used lenses, and if I am doing a shoot for someone it is always the primary
