Canon 250 mp ASPH sensor.

I'm surprised no one has posted about the new Canon ASPH sensor that does 250mp. Canon's 250-megapixel sensor can read the side of a plane 18km away | ZDNet

The title sounds a bit silly.
A 2MP sensor could easily "read the side of a plane 18km away", if you put it behind a suitable optic.
And ZDNet just repeats Canon's marketing.

Waydaminute...No one told me we were supposed to be reading the side of planes...honestly...I just spent 6 months doing silhouettes because someone thought that might be a good idea...It is so hard to keep up...

Looks like a 35mm on that using APS-H, which is approx. 45mm equivalent. So 18km is pretty far away to read text, even if the text is the size of an airplane.

Just a guess based on the photo.

Personally, I'd rather have a sensor that performs better in low light than one that kills my disk drive.

I think that's the way Canon operates and they know it gets their fanatics raving about them. Their fanatics will also tell you they only buy L series lenses as though nothing can compete with them. Last I knew they don't even make any APS-H sensors for the past couple of years. Half of their fanatics are a bunch of mind programmed robots.

If Canon can fit 250 MP in APS-H (28.7 x 19 mm -548 mm2), they could probably squeeze 400 MP into FF (36 x 24 mm - 864 mm2). Or maybe 1 billion MP into a 645 medium format (44 x 33 - 1452 mm2).

Try harder, Canon. APS-H? I'm not impressed.
