If they are looking to sell off their camera division, you wouldn't expect them to appear to have totally abandoned it, would you? Hoya at least had the foresight to develop some new Pentax gear before they sloughed the camera division off.

.From a profit motivation yes, however, the rumour and innuendo surrounding the NX is just that. Its still supported, so who knows whats going on there?

I don't know why anyone would think that the ilc or compact market was collapsing.
Apparently, these days "compact" includes every camera that is not an ILC, since the Nikon stats are divided between "ILC", "lenses", and "compacts", and the stats for Nikon show the "compacts" segment to be in free fall.

There is no reason to think that Nikon's results do not reflect the market as a whole.

Every girl in a club has a compact camera. There is a huge market for them in the casual shooter who just wants to you know take pictures of their drunk friends or something.
Yeah, but most of those people seem to be using cell phone cameras for most of those reasons.

The hard part for Nikon is that they aren't particularly diversified, unlike Canon, Sony, and Samsung. Anyone of those brands can weather poor quarters or even years if necessary based on other businesses they run. On the other hand, Nikon is mostly about cameras and if the market dries up and they have idle factories, they will face tough times.

They make spectacle lenses and optical microscopes, binoculars and other such optical products, I imagine, that would help them, but they're obviously taking a hit, right now.

It's a small compatibility update to get bluetooth functionality back on Android Marshmallow.

Sorry to disappoint you guys but I think this pretty much puts a stake in the rumors of samsung's demise. They might have been down but things point to a big comeback for them. Sorry clackers.

What "puts a stake in the rumors of samsung's demise"?

If you have news, Wolf Blitzer, let's hear it!

DPR writes about the firmware update: "Samsung has all but backed out of the digital camera market. Its flagship NX1 was discontinued late last year, though the NX500 remains in stock for the time being."

Go buy one.

Be our guest.

The only facts anyone knows is the Indian factory isn't producing cameras anymore.Busan may be?I don't know where the NXs were made?

Also, the only announcement Sammy made was that they were leaving the compact camera area.

This firmware update shows they are supporting the NX.( even though its a minor update)

Rumour and speculation can go on and on, like the Pentax FF did!(how long?).

Fascinating how @Osv was sermonizing thusly in this very thread:

"good grief is this still going on? LMAO

people have been claiming that samsung is getting out of the camera business for what, six months now?

so why is the nx1 $1199 at b&h, same price that it was months ago."

Of course, don't expect him to do the honourable thing and apologize for his hysterics any time soon.

Samsung is basically waiting till they sell their current stock of cameras before they make official announcements, but clearly they aren't continuing in the ILC business.
