Leica introduces Typ 601, dethrones K-01 as ugliest ILC ever

Leica introduces SL system with Typ 601 full-frame mirrorless camera and lenses: Digital Photography Review

About 8k for the body and 5k for the kit lens. Not unexpected to be honest...

The good news is that the Leica SL pricing will make the Pentax FF look like a relatively inexpensive camera by comparison, perhaps even a bargain

24MP FF sensor is good enough for Leica....

$13k for 24 MP, no SR, variable-aperture "kit lens," ergonomic nightmare, ridiculously large and heavy, and hideous looking. It looks like a toy for little kids with tiny hands who haven't developed hand-eye coordination yet.

A fool and his money, etc.

The body looks like my Pentax point and shoot from the 80s. Both full frame and mirrorless. No interchangeable lens though.

Only 24MP? No doubt, Sony fans will be out pouring scorn on it in short order for that, if nothing else.

As far as looks are concerned, the Sony A7 still tops the ugly scale, in my view. The Leica SL bears some resemblance to it, but its viewfinder hump looks less of an afterthought than the A7's.

SR in lenses only.
Add "S" type menus, and you for sure loose everyone's patience

Funny thing is, many photograph journals put Leica in "professional camera" category when introducing new cameras. Who uses Leica camera for "professional" purpose? Should be in "luxury /expensive camera" category.

Maybe I should go ahead and buy all pentax lenses I want? such a bargain

This leica looks like a grown up A7.

They are going to provide adaptors for M, R, T and S lenses to work on the Leica SL. So if you were invested in existing Leica lens systems it could be a viable option (and you have a spare 8K looking for a home)

Wow. Aesthetics aside, the ergonomics look terrible.

I was ready to pour scorn on this camera, but now that Leica has announced it with specs, I am actually reasonably impressed.

The specs are pretty decent - not groundbreaking but ticks all the boxes for me - certainly better than I expected from Leica.

Given I have a fairly large collection of Leica lenses (I own nearly all the Summicrons plus a smattering of others) this could be THE body for them.

Not sure I am that keen on the native lenses - not into zooms. And they kind of look big. So much for Leica's criticism of Sony - they have not done better themselves.

The other camera I have been considering has been the A7S Mark II. I think I would play with both before deciding.
