Some of those cons are pretty important for a gold-star camera, for me and I expect for many others. Hard to disregard such items as unreliable AF, AFc locks exposure, weak battery, slow buffer. But when it does in fact work, breathtaking.. I guess.

Disclaimer: I admit I only read the conclusions, so these headline cons may not be devastatingly bad.

Ironically, the K-3 II got similar AF complaints, but was dissed much more. Oh well. I think DPR might be suffering from "new-toy-sindrome". Some of the cons are downright stupid. No raw conversion? Really, in anno domini 2015?

I guess I thought auto focus was a little better on it based on internet reports. Hard to say. The only thing certain is that you really want a top performing camera in all respects if you are paying north of 3000 dollars for it. Some of these things are probably nit-picky and would be glossed over on an 800 dollar camera, like the K3 II, but laggy buffer, questionable auto focus, and so-so button quality shouldn't really be there on a top end camera priced like the A7r II

My feeling from the review is that it's simply not worth the money given the list of cons and, overall, the likely robustness and integrity of the build quality. If someone wants really top-end performance like that, then the Nikon D810 or the Canon 5DS are far more mature and reliable alternatives bearing in mind that with this kind or resolution on tap, you are really buying a specialist item. For almost anyone, 24 megs is plenty for an awful lot of things as well as everyday stuff, I think, and far more forgiving of technique and other equipment (lenses, batteries, drives and cards, etc.). Sony have produced a great "tech showcase" but for several thousand $$ it has also to be a very, very solid camera in a whole system and I'm not sure it is.

The camera certain piqued my interest with the introduction of IBIS and recent update to allow uncompressed raw. However, feature wise, the camera isn't balanced. It has some excellent pros but also has several annoying cons. I think my biggest gripes are reverting to 12bit mode in continuous shutter mode (which is the default I use on any camera and use my own finger to control single shutter vs continuous) and slow write to SD card (about the same speed as K-3 but with much larger files). Buttons also don't feel very good but at least ergonomically it's better than the first one. I'll be very interested to see how A7RIII turn out.

Well put. Samsung did the same with their NX1, another very talented camera. Another brand with a sealed body but no wr primes, that Pentax trait rubbed off I guess?

A Gold is good for Sony on DPR

DPR don't make much sense to me anymore these days.
They way they list the pros/cons never seem consistent between brands/models.
Some cons seem very nit-picky and often at the whim of the reviewer.
As usual, they beat at some pet features they (or the particular reviewer) like/want.

In fact, the only thing I use of their review is the image comparator.
Even with that and camera nowadays, I am feeling that its all getting pointless for me as they all are good enough.

The a7rii is not a sports camera. No one that buys this is going to need to punch out 25 raw files in a row. It shoots at around the same speed as my d600. It's really more aimed at well, everything else. Portraits, weddings, landscape, etc. etc. The im body stabilization looks awesome, i would Its unfortunately a little out of my price point as i plan on selling my current gear which will equate to roughly half the price of the a7rii body alone. Its a bit expensive for a mirrorless camera, but for an established pro i guess its basically takes the place of their video camera as well.

What are you moving to? Hopefully not Samsung. They seem to be in a death-spiral.
