Canon makes 80-millionth EOS camera

QuoteQuote:
Canon says the EOS 5DS R became the 80-millionth EOS camera to roll off the production line. Canon produced its first EOS, as a new generation of AF SLRs, in March 1987. The landmark comes in a year during which Canon celebrates two other milestones: the 10th anniversary of the EOS 5D series and the 110-millionth EF-series lens.
So that is 2.6 million bodies and 3.6 million lenses a year - on average

Not one of which I have been interested in buying.

Canon lenses are more attractive than Canon bodies.

I would go to Canon if they gave me a free 1D X and all the free lenses I want (with the new 600mm F/4 DO BR among them)

Was this one of the years in which they changed their lens mount and slammed the door on their entire legacy lineup? Losing auto stop-down on shutter release must have been painful for the Spotmatic users making body-only K-camera purchases, but at least they could still mount and shoot their glass with the adapter.

Yes, though they were not the only brand to "orphan" their legacy mount with the move to auto-focus.

Yeah, they basically went from also-ran to leader of the pack. Go figure.

Full disclosure: I'm not into brand-worship, or -bashing.

+1....awesome glass (35L mk2, 24-70L mk2, 135L, 70-200L mk2 etc). Bodies, very meh. Especially sensor performance.

Hah, with a deal like that, I would be willing to use just about any m43 or larger format!
