A-Mount Teleconverter

My dad's wanting to get a bit more reach for his Sony SLT, but doesn't want to cough up daft cash for a fancy prime. Does anyone have experience and recommendations for A-mount TCs?

I think it's the 70-210 "Beercan."

The Beercan is a nice lens
