Advice for Pentax user with "new" Canon 35mm film body...

So I just bought a *brand new* (as in, boxed, sealed, unopened, never used, reputable source) Canon EOS-5 35mm SLR and VG-10 battery grip - a nice pro-sumer / semi-pro 35mm setup (just from the wrong manufacturer!! ). I have no Canon or compatible lenses whatsoever, which will be no surprise to anyone here who knows me, as I'm primarily a Pentax lad. However, I'm hoping that someone on the forum can help... I'd like to get myself a lens or two so I can give the new camera a work-out, and I have no idea (a) which mount lenses are compatible, and (b) what might be good, reasonably-low-cost choices. I know I can find this by searching the inter-web-net, but hoping you good folks here might be able to help me short-cut that process. A nifty-fifty would be nice, so too would be a 35mm (or anything else in the moderately wide / normal / short-tele range)... what should I be looking for?

Any advice greatly appreciated. Thank you!

You'll want a Canon EF lens. All modern options should work as Canon has stuck with the same mount interface for a while AFAIK.

The 50mm F1.8 might be a good place to start:

Sorry couldn't resist

As Adam suggests the 50/1.8.
If you want cheaper look at the Yongnou:

They also make a 35/2:
Yongnuo YN 35mm f/2 Lens for Canon EF YN35MM 2.0 B&H Photo Video

Now if they made lenses for K-mount I'd have both of these...

The Canon EF 50/1.8 II is a great inexpensive lens for that camera. I used to have an EOS A2e and an EOS Elan II, and the 50/1.8 II was basically my only EF lens.
For a nice little zoom, look for a MIJ EF 28-105 USM.

No problem.

Would you like me to also provide an Amazon link to some chocolate and my mailing address?

I guess I deserved that Hey, I'm not going to defend it... all I can say is I really like it But it hasn't changed me from being a Pentax man. If I had to give up all but one of my cameras, I'd be keeping the K3 or K3II, and that's for sure (hang on, that's two!!)

Puzzled, for a foray into film there must have been a Pentax lens compatible body available somewhere at a fair price, and all you existing kit, except specialist APS-C lenses would fit. No extra expense or effort!

I already have a very basic K-mount film body - an also-unused (well, it was when I bought it - now used by me) Cosina C1s, and I've used some of my older K-mount glass on that. Good fun. I picked up the EOS 5 because (a) it was a remarkably good price - less than a cheap point and shoot digital, and (b) it's a pro-sumer / semi-pro model, so quite nice quality...

@bertwert - PM me your address, and I'd be happy to send a sample of the better chocolate here in the UK - it's the least I can do for the nod on those Yongnuo lenses
