Interesting form factor change for Hassi. It will have a market, but mostly high end enthusiasts and elitists I think. Some pros will find the form factor useful for their work for sure, but you still need a critical viewfinder option (hoodman?) to allow this to have the most versatility.

And people think Pentax is rare!

I am not surprised, just noting the hat off to the glorious Hasselblad past with their 6x6 V-series cameras:
  • 7 out of 7 sample pictures being square ones
  • two lenses shown at launch, the focal lenses (45mm and 90mm ) of which are most meaningful (in the 'corresponding to some classical field of view' sense) with a 33x33mm crop, where the first one is a standard lens (focal length ≈ diagonal) and the second one a portrait lens (same field of view as 85mm on 24x36 and 150mm on traditional 6x6).

I am considering jumping to Hasselblad if this model has the goods.

Pentax making a MF mirrorless, pffft, yeah right. Their product development is sooo slow, they haven't even filled the lens line for the 645z system yet, let alone make lenses for mirrorless.

I love my Z but whatever fits I say, and no mirror and EVF, I'll take that, yes please sir!

I disagree, this is definitely the place to be discussing a competing MF system at a similar price.

My GXR could make 1:1 photos too... GR and K-1 in LV mode.

Indeed and so does the Leica SL, which seems to be the X1D's main target.

However, in doing so, the GR is limited to a 16x16mm sensor and the K-1 / SL to a 24x24mm sensor when the X1D can brag about its medium format 33x33mm.

Of course. But it's not 56*56 mm.

It seems to me new lenses are made for 44*33 mm sensor only and new system is limited by sensor's size.

By the way, there were digital backs with real square sensors before. 36.9*36.9 mm, for example. It's bigger than 33*33.

I think it will use a 43x33 50+ MP - Sony? Would be great if it was FF MF at the supposed price point

Still we will know more today at 14:00 Swedish time

Small camera house, but the 90mm f/3,2 are very long for that sensor format. As expected the shorter flange distance will cause lenses to be longer. Hassy dint make the lens or camera collapsible to reduce its size when its transported.

I agree, this is something to definitely be interested in. Especially about the option to adapt nearly any lens that covers the sensor. It has two things I wish the Z had, a EVF, and 4k video. Interesting times.

Yes, yes and yes .

The lenses being named XCD are quite certainly limited to a crop 645 sensor. In the H-series world, HCD lenses are limited to 36x48 whilst 'full 645 frame' lenses are named HC.

If Pentax ever makes a mirrorless MF camera, its should be a low size and weight camera as those metrics are the most important reasons to go mirrorless. Since medium format requires longer focal lengths and that isn't easy to archive with short lenses, they should go for some kind of collapsible system. In my opinion it would be best if it could use the current 645 or 67 lens line up or both, without modification. In other words a large "mirror house" that can be collapsible. For instance with a bellow and hinge system.

Wow. Thanks Adam. The thread had definite relevance to the Pentax Medium Format since it is competition at the same price point and you move it within a thread that is irrelevant since it talks about FF not medium Format.

Sigh.
