I recently found a decent deal on a Sony A7ii w/kit lens and am seriously considering it. I'm really partial to both Pentax and Sony. I currently own a K-3 and a6000 and love both, but the full frame bug keeps trying to bite. I've really been holding off until I find a good/great deal on a K-1 or one of the A7 series cameras (the A7ii seems to pretty close to the K-1) .

My only issue with the K-1 is that I keep reading that the autofocus still lags behind other full frame cameras, but everything else on it looks pretty incredible. The fact that I am already invested in some quality K-Mount full frame lenses is also something I'm considering.

The A7ii looks great except that I don't have any FE lenses, so the 24-70 kit lens would have to do for a while.

Not really sure what to do, so I'm hoping someone can provide me their thoughts. Should I just hold off and wait for a K-1? Or should I get the A7ii and hope the kit lens is good enough until I can get some better glass?
I guess it really depends on what you are shooting. The K1 certainly should do significantly better auto focus than the A7 II. The most recent Sony full frame (A7r II) seems to be decent with regards to auto focus, but the older generation A7 II is pretty weak there. Obviously if you are using your k mount glass on the Sony, you would be using manual focus anyway. The whole auto focus "problem" with the K-1 had to do with tracking and not general auto focus and in my experience, it is more than capable. Not at a D5 level, but then again few cameras out there are.

The K-1 is probably going to be a significantly better landscape and wedding and portrait camera. Neither camera is going to be great for sports due to limitations in frame rate.

Good luck on your decision!

I was considering a A7II late last year...... now have a K-1. No regrets what so ever.

The differences between the two are so self evident I won't bother outlining them. You need to work through your priorities and needs then go from there.

Without being detailed and expicit with YOUR requirements you will only solicit others opinions from their perspective.

I went ahead and ordered the K-1. I'm pretty excited because that's the camera I knew I wanted, but everyone's recommendations just reinforced what I already knew deep down. Thank you all for your help! Now, to start selling all my current Sony before my wife finds out we no longer have a retirement fund! Either that, or to help finance the divorce fund. Whichever comes first. If anyone is interested in some Sony gear, send me a pm. I don't want to list everything because I'm not sure if I can in this thread, but I've got a couple of Sony cameras, a few lenses, and a few adapters.

What k-mounts? As in lenses?

And thank you. I will have a great time with it. I've been reading up on it since I placed the order and can't see myself needing more than what it offers.

Current K-Mount Lenses
Tamron 28-75 2.8
Sigma 70-200 2.8 HSM
Tamron 70-200 2.8 (I should really consider getting rid of this one, I never use it)
Sigma 85 1.4 HSM
Sigma 28 1.8
Pentax DFA 100 2.8
Pentax FA 50 1.4

Plus, some legacy lenses and some crop lenses as well. Oddly enough, I'm more excited about testing the legacy glass on the K-1 than the modern stuff.

I really want to sell all my Sony stuff to fund a DFA 24-70. That lens looks great.

Ok, very well equipped for K1....

A 24mm prime( I use a Sigma superwide) will save you plenty...you have the rest covered.

If you want to go longer occasionally theres lotsa used up to 300mm, even the FA80-320( used manually past 200mm, it hunts in AF).

I haven't really picked up my other cams since K1 arrived, you K3 might get lonely but is a good back up.

I definitely need something in that 24 range. I just remembered I have an FAJ 18-35. I know it's not the sharpest lens out there, but hopefully it gets me out of a bind if I need it to.

Whoops. Just checked and it's actually an F 17-28. I guess I'm covered in a bind. If I remember correctly, the F 17-28 is supposed to be a bit better than the FAJ 18-35. I hope so.

And thanks! I hope to get a lot of use out of it.

If you aren't invested in lenses other than K and then you should buy the K-1. however I would hold on to the A6000 ..that explosive little package does it all...I carry mine with me everywhere. I keep my wallet my phone and my a6000 in a small camera bag that is always with me when I leave the house.

I have to agree. The A6000 with FE 2/28 (giving 42mm equivalent) is hard to beat and a great alternative to a pocket P&S.

The Techart adapter is directly for Leica M lenses, not K-mount lenses. Although it seems it may work if you pile on another adapter (LM to PK) on top of the Techart adapter, I guess.
The adapter has a $349 USD price tag. That must be factored in to the overall price tag too. Provided the stacked adapters indeed work.

Make a list of the pros and cons of each. Assign a weight to each item, say 0 to 5 or 1 to 10 or whatever. Total the pros and subtract the total of the cons. If you should find yourself favoring one over the other when assigning weights (e.g. bias) there is your answer. Still can't decide? Flip a coin and think about how you feel about the decision - happy - disappointed - indifferent? There is your answer right there - listen to your subconscious.
