How to trigger on camera flash in live view on Nikon?

I was trying to trigger my on camera on my d600 during a recent shoot and I noticed that when I was in live view, the flash wouldn't fire. I had to focus in live view then exit out of live view to take the shot, which is a tad bit annoying. I have noticed the same thing with even the built in flash, it simply won't fire when I am in live view.

Any ideas?

I there any chance you are in movie mode in LV?

Nope, when I press the shutter button, it takes a picture, but without the flash.

Both my D810 and Df fire in LiveView with my SB-400 attached and also the D810 with its built-in flash too.

What mode is your flash set (eg rear curtain etc)?
