Xiaomi on the mirrorless bandwagon with the M1

A Micro Four Thirds mirrorless with a 20-megapixel sensor, up to ISO 25,600, and bundled with a 12-40mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. But no flash or electronic viewfinder...
FOR $330??

Who would complain? It's quite a bargain for a Leica look-alike. You can really spurge (if you're in China, no US at least for now) and go for one bundled with a 42.5mm f/1.8 lens and drop the US equivalent of $450 on it. Oh, and 4K at 30fps along with a 3" 720 x 480 touchscreen, bluetooth and wifi.

I remain convinced {look at the Canon EOS-M, for example} that an MILC without EVF will not succeed in the U.S. or Europe.

I might be interested to dip my toes into m4/3 with this body, but apparently even though there is focus peaking, you can't zoom the liveview for fine focusing. Deal breaker for me.

I would be interested in seeing how this body compares against something like an Olympus E-PL7. The Olympus is closely priced and a proven piece of technology. It's a bit dated but if its anything like my M10 then I think it's still a relevant competitor.

Some conflicting prices posted here, the G7 body is outdated now with the newer releases and its higher specd so will run out at good value prices. These lenses are unproven and regular M43 shooters have their favourites.I'm sceptical about the European/US markets taking off.China maybe?...time will tell.

If Xiaomi (or more correctly, the outfit they are backing) do well in the Asia markets then they likely need never sell a camera in Europe or the Americas to turn a healthy profit and establish a large userbase to which upgrades and accessories can be sold. I guess it depends on how determined they are. They have shown themselves very determined and fast learners with smartphones, so we'll see. Sooner or later, a Chinese consumer electronics giant will emerge and become a household name worldwide just as we regard Japanese or South Korean outfits today - LG, Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, Canon, etc.

There is no conflict, only the usual difference between the price in China and the price for Westerners.

Per their website, the M1 + 12-40mm kit costs 2,199 RMB ($330) in China and, as said at Photokina, will be priced at $499 on export markets. The M1 + 12-40mm + 42.5mm double kit costs 2,999 RMB ($450) in China and will be priced at $699 on export markets.

This 1.5 multiplier is quite common.

Well the early reviews were far from complimentary, there were some positives though.

NOW!, there is about to be a firmware update V3 which could make this into a half decent camera(maybe with Oly/Pano lenses).

The price direct from the YI website is U$299 delivered...which includes the 12-40mm vario.I dont know anyone offering something like this at such a low price.

As for the early reviews, well, they were done by recognised camera people and thats not the target market.YI aim was to bring people into a camera system from their smartphones.

If the V3 does the job, it can definitely be considered as a convenient lightweight walk round and as a back up to a higher end body.

4K video at the best price yet?...It remains to be seen but may surprise.

I'd be interested in the mark 2 body with ibis under 400$, that'd be a nice travel cam. Good thing with milc - firmware updates can be very significant and fix major flaws in those cameras.
