Ricoh, buy Nikon.

Imagine Nikon AF and lenses with K-mount body ergonomics and IBIS.

That's the dream

Nikon completely failing would be a huge loss to the industry and completely change the dynamics of the camera market. Canon could easily become the camera industry's Microsoft.

The "Nikon" is failing story, whilst not without substance, is becoming a bandwagon for people to jump on, it seems. Just a larger scale "Pentax Is Doomed" thing. They'll turn it around, I'm sure

People seem to ignore how much capital they have to work with. I'm sure they have lots of bloat they can trim.

Well, it's commercial video bloggers. They need extreme statements to get clicks and make money of it.

Who would click on a "Pentax is fine. Nikon is fine." video? Normality is boring.

Access to MUCH more capital from Mitsubishi* than Pentax has from Ricoh.

*Scroll down to 'Companies'. I don't think Rikennon will become RiNikon.

agree 100% -- Nikon (and Pentax too) need to transition to become software+hardware companies. This is a huge struggle for them. The only company in this regard who is "almost there" is Sony. The key is 3rd party apps (a la the iPhone). And that requires a robust set of developer APIs. IMHO, any camera manufacturer who doesn't excel at software won't be around in 5 years.

Those would be lousy titles, so you're absolutely right, no one would click on them. Keep the content of the hypothetical "Pentax if fine" video the same and try a title like:

"8 REASONS YOU'RE WRONG ABOUT THE FUTURE OF PENTAX AND HOW YOU CAN AVOID LOOKING LIKE AN IGNORAMOUS"

You tried clicking on that. Admit it.

Which you seem to be helping by spreading their plague.. err videos.

It is highly unlikely Nikon is going away anytime soon. They will shrink (with the market) but will not so easily disappear.

I'd love a scriptable OS on a DSLR with functions set to User modes.

If anyone would do that, it would be Sony. Definitely not a Pentax type ability.. and it would introduce a bigger means of virus infection..

Fact behing this is that no other company has had lower quality products in the last few years.
Nikon's customer flee because a product is not good quality enough, for nothing else.

No other company lost so many customers.

As Nikon has never been any more than a poor Canon clone, there would be little to loose anyhow.

"You're right, Mr. Thatcher, I did lose a million dollars last year. I expect to lose a million dollars this year. I expect to lose a million dollars next year. You know, Mr. Thatcher, at the rate of a million dollars a year, I'll have to close this place in... 60 years." - Citizen Kane

Yes. The D500, D5, 24 f/1.8 G, 500 and 600mm f/4E, 105mm f/1.4E, etc etc.. those were all lower quality products.

The issue for the drop in DSLRs isn't due to poor products. It is due to a more dynamic market allowing for more choice. We see now that when some of the customers are given the option for small and light over sheer image quality/image resolution, they opt for small and light.

While others desire sheer image quality at the highest resolution, price and weight don't matter to them.

Nikon hasn't been too adept at tapping into that new branch of the camera market and exciting customers... so those customers go for Fuji, Sony, Panasonic, and Olympus..

It would be the same scenario if you only had the choice of Cornflakes for breakfast. But, along comes Sony offering fresh Fruit. Fuji now offers Poptarts and Granola bars. Olympus has Danish pastries and Crullers.

Now we see, with new appealing options, some people venturing from Cornflakes to fresh fruit or Danish pastries. Because those choices appeal more to them now that those choices are available. Before they were just making due with the standard because they had minimal choice.. so they made what they felt was the best choice at the market at the time.

Pentax could only dream of having that many customers to lose.

It is obvious your dislike of Nikon. But your dislike seems to be clouding your view of reality. They're not that bad.
