Quite a marketing stunt to not show something on your biggest home show in your anniversary year. Did they hire Pentax US' old marketing specialists?

Canon same story (but they seem to be doing well).

Canon doesn't need to do much with Nikon flailing around.
They just have to ensure that they don't have the number of QC screw ups that Nikon has.

It certainly puts what Pentax is presenting at CP+ into perspective.

If you're talking about teasing forthcoming products, I think it's quite understandable that Nikon would not want to do that.

Their existing system is basically a complete system, so anything they would show would most probably be a replacement for something and damage the sales of whatever preceded it.

If they were to show a new system ahead of time, it would damage confidence in their current systems, and again damage sales. They have to be a bit careful about what messages they give just now.

Finally, after last year's fiasco with the DL cameras, they will be very cautious about showing anything until they know 100% that they can deliver. I suspect there will be certain amount of corporate trauma about that.

The reason companies have road maps and pre-announcememts is to say to customers, "We don' t have this yet, but bear with us. It's coming." It makes sense for "young" systems like Fuji GFX and Pentax DFA, but no sense for Nikon, Canon, or Pentax DA.

As for Canon, they released a bunch of products a couple of weeks ago, by the way. So they will have something new to show.

I'm on my way to CP+ now, and I expect to see all makers putting on a good show, but as usual, it will be focused on showcasing their current products.
