That's very interesting, and I assume (!) includes A and E mount.
I hope that we will see some pricing adjustments from Nikon in the near future - they have priced themselves off the market here in Canada.

We've been seeing an long sequence of cash-back and discount offers on all three major manufacturers, here in Australia. If the same holds elsewhere, it's probably the cause of the relative shift in rankings that we're seeing here. The old saw in marketing is still true - if you want to increase sales, advertise or discount. Both apply here. We'll see what the position is when they've cleared unsold inventories.

And it only includes FF bodies. When you add in Nikon's APS-C sales I sure the crush Sony, but just the fact the Sony is moving a head in the FF market ($$$) is pretty big news all its own.

Is there details of FF units sold?....gross turnover figures can be misleading.

This is the sort of thing that does wax and wane a bit based on when new cameras are released. All of Nikon's full frame lines, except the D5 (which was never going to be a high volume seller), are getting pretty long in the tooth. The D610 and D810 are both due for an update. I would think that a D610 upgrade would vault Nikon over Sony again in the sales of full frame cameras.

It is still impressive what Sony has done in a relatively short time to climb in the market standings.

Maybe I got it wrong but I was thinking D610 upgrade was D750... And yes well I agree on one thing for D810. Canon has 5Dmark IV that is 30MP and an all rounder. A7RII is also an all rounder except if of course it doesn't really compete on sports/action still yet, but still.

D810 is a bit too specialized in landscape. Not bad by itself, except when you competitors are almost as capable there but provide more on other aspect in a single device.

The only real asset of D810 is the low iso setting. That's a bit short.

I don't think so. The D750 is a completely separate line. A little faster frame rate and a little better auto focus module, but also more expensive. The D610 line is more Nikon's equivalent the A7 or the 6D -- an entry level full frame with as few bells and whistles as possible and a relatively low price.
