Updated Canon EOS 6D Mark II Specifications [CR2]

The way this rumor site seems to work is the level of accuracy is rated CR0-CR3 -- from mere heresy to confirmation. The ones not in italics are CR3.. so it looks like they are pretty sure of themselves on this one.

I'm thinking 26MP is a pretty nice resolution on FF. And I'm interested in the DR performance of this new sensor. The 30MP sensor in the 5d IV increased DR from the previous 5d III by about 2 stops which puts in line with the K-3 II. Not incredible DR but shows that Canon is working on improving Dynamic Range on their sensors.

I've heard that it's just around the corner, yes. Great time for Canon to refresh this model.

it will probably be specced to compete with the Nikon D750 and have many similarities with the Canon 80D. Dual pixel AF will make it a good Video dslr.

Plus the vari-angle screen should help on video too. I think the consensus I read was this was going to be what, for Canon FF, what the 80D is for Canon crop.

Only questions I have are DR and price.. I suspect around 2k USD if not a little more...

Original 6D was introduced in 2012. Canon have a very slow upgrade cycle for their FF's, but while 6D remains a good camera, 5 years is pushing it a bit nowadays.

Yes. From looking at camelcamelcamel, the 6d dropped by 300 dollars (2100 to 1800 USD) in 6.5 months after launch, but then went back up.. flipflopped around for a year before settling back around 1900 dollars for another year before eventually settling to around 1400 dollars.

So a 700 dollar depreciation at retail price in around 5 years isn't bad. Canon's making money... lots of it... that technology and tooling has to be well paid for by now.

That said, in the used market, I see them going for 800 to 900 dollars. That has to hurt buying at 2100 and selling at 800... 260 dollar depreciation every year for 5 years.

How would I know? I find renting fast-depreciating, consumer goods a waste of money and poor finance. So I don't do it.

Yet I tend to buy at sub-brand new retail price on just about everything outside of food. None of my cameras have depreciated at the level the 6d has, mainly because I don't buy them at the initial price. And Canon generally inflates their initial pricing..

I'm sure it will get hammered for not having 4k video, if that turns out true,

(not)

If there is no 4K video then Canon is definitely doomed.

That actually is a huge point of contention on the Canon rumors forum right now with this new camera... pages and pages of infighting over the potential lack of 4k. All of that arguing and the camera isn't even officially announced yet, much less available for purchase!

Hah we're wayyy off topic.. but indeed so. If anything, watching all the other forum discussions for Canon (4k whining), Nikon (dooomed), here at Pentax.. the same discussions are had with the same outcomes -- none. There are no outcomes. People bellyache for days or weeks in a thread, it gets extinguished only to reappear days/weeks/months later with the same lack of outcome.

So we're no different here..

The only thing that this camera lacks is the second card slot. I'm surprised (in a good way) that Canon put 6.5fps on this model. I thought it will be limited to 5fps.

But with the 45 af point, all being cross type (19 of them rummored to be compatible with f8 lenses + TC) and with 6.5fps, dual pixel af, articulated screen and touch control... this camera sounds competitive.
