That's a big camera for a micro four-thirds sensor. Me, I'd be inclined to save M4/3 for tiny bodies that had huge portability advantages.

As it is, this thing costs just $100 US less than the oft-quoted price of a K-1. Bear that in mind when you say 'only'.
The whole system is smaller than APS-C. Stick a m4/3 lens on there and it is a noticeably smaller camera than a APS-C or FF camera.

Yup, 2 x Oly cams etc. Plenty of examples on this thread.

The new Leica DG Elmarit 200mm F2.8 Power OIS for m43 is:
1245g and 88x177mm

The DA* 200mm F2.8 is
825g and 83x134 mm (and it covers full frame)

Go figure

Not to mention the price - 2700 versus 800 (for the Pentax). This new G9 camera and that lens will set you back a cool 4400. One can buy an awful lot of camera kit for that kind of outlay.

It's all a Republican plot to bankrupt the hipsters so they've got nothing left to donate to the DNC at the next Presidential election. /jk

Crazy. I definitely was not thinking of that combo!

Man, this looks like a nice camera, but I had no idea the price. I've often thought of getting a EM5 or EM5II plus one of their smaller lenses for an adventure camera. The optics of APS-C are just a notch nicer, but the smaller M4/3 lenses make a compact package. (I moved to Pentax from an Olympus EPL-1 and briefly a EM10 before I lost the darn thing, I'm not just speculating.)

That thing is larger than a K-70. And people thought the K-01 was too big for a mirrorless.. Maybe it's time for a K-02 full frame?

Give me an EVF for shooting on bright sunny days that wash out the rear screen and I'm just about there.

Dials and button arrangements make it look more like a Canon.

Its smaller and lighter than a GH5,the K-01 is thick but not longer and wider than other Apsc mirrorless models, most Fujis are bigger.

Its a bargain! When you compare it with what it competes with, the EM1 mk2...U$ 300 less.

Also consider that price includes a 1.4x TC,so its 2 lenses for the price.I thought i saw a rep say it was U$ 2999???....Leica's royalty must be hefty!

Ha, it's funny seeing the large body with a small mount.

Anyway, this body is probably amazing at video, I've often thought if I was going to get into video, I'd go for a mid level panasonic M4/3 body!

Thats a good place to start, there are quite a few panasonics and the OMD 10 mk3 that shoot 4K now, pick your size and features.Even the compact TZ80/90 zs 60/70 do a reasonable job.

Pentax gets a mention.

Heres a good summation of the G9, i has already watched Shaun explain the G9 in the video he mentions.

This camera goes closest to doing everything well.

Comparing Panasonic G9 to Pentax

I recently purchased the Panasonic G9 after much soul searching so to speak. I looked very closely at the Pentax KP with the 300/4 lens for birding. I looked at Nikon and finally settled on the Panasonic G9 for various reasons. First, like the Pentax, it is completely weather/dust resistant. While larger than most m4/3rd cameras it is not that large. Large enough to handle bigger birding/nature lens. Plus, it is just big enough for using with gloves. The G9 reminds me of my old Pentax PZ1P but with a fully articulating screen. The 2x crop factor is very good for shooting nature and wildlife subjects. It is not as good as Pentax for low light photography but works ok as long as you keep the ISO under 1600. Comparing prints made with the G9 to the Pentax I have a hard time telling which image came from which camera. The option of having more longer lens choices than Pentax was a deciding factor for my decision. I never warmed up to the KP and I did not trust the K70 since aperture block failure has been reported in them. I lost my K50 due to that problem so I am gun shy when it comes to that issue.
Anyway, for anyone considering the Panasonic G9 I have to say I am very pleased.

^ Sounds good. That would be the m43 camera I would get if I ever go that route.
