Thinking of a Sony A7 II

I am thinking of picking up a Sony A7 II, but I want to know how it compares to the K-1.

If you have both or had have both before, I want to know your thoughts.

I held my sister's a5000 and was super impressed by it's auto focus capabilities, it blows my K-3 out of the water. I know it's a 2 year release date differential between the a5000 and K-3. However the Sony just feels so much more technologically better. My K-5 and K-3 are 3 year difference and the differential between the two are nowhere near as substantial in change as the 2 year difference in the a5000 and K-3.

Anything I need to know? Any thoughts and opinions that you should add? Please do so. I am in the edge of selling my K-3 and the DA* 16-50 and 50-135 for the A7 II with it's kit lens.

B&H has the A7 II with the 28-70 3.5-5.6 kit for $1300, is this a decent price?

Never had one, not sure I've ever used one, but from the weather sealing test and comparison it didn't fair well. So that might be something to consider if you are out in inclement weather with your cameras.

I don't think the A7 II is that great. It is the cheapest full frame camera out there, I think, but there have been an awful lot of improvements since it was new. You aren't going to find auto focus to be anything like your sister's A5000, the EVF has quite a bit of lag and the sensor is just OK. But on the bright side, it is cheap -- 1100 for body alone.

I don't think I would go for it, but if you don't have Pentax lenses, then you might go with it.

I used to want a A7II too. But after I filter out what I really need / want in the camera, I found out I don't really use the advance feature A7II offer but it lags something I use a lot on my K-3, Composition Adjustment feature. That pretty much stops me from getting it.

And for its price, I wish they have something like GPS/Astro feature build in like in K3II / K1.

It might help if you list it out, what you “need”, what can be “compromised” and see if K3 has it? A7II has it?

Thanks you guys, I decided to keep my K-3 after reading your reviews. I guess I'll save up and get at least the A7R II or higher, go safe or go home.

Here is one more opinion. (Is it a review if one has never actually taken one out shooting?)

If I were to buy an A7-series body, it would be the A7II. That being said, I played with one at Best Buy a few months back and was disappointed in the user experience overall. No, I will not give details.

Other way round, LeDave.

The a5000 is like my Sony NEX-7, terribly slow to focus, because essentially it has no mirror and only has contrast detection pixels on its sensor.

You've got two nice zoom lenses for your K-3 but they're both slow focusing unless you do a screw drive conversion.

The A7 II is better than the a5000 in that it has phase detection AF pixels as well, but it's a clumsy hybrid system.

However, you'd be getting five way optical stabilization just like the KP and K-1, if that's important to you.

The picture quality is quite good - I have an A7, same sensor.

Two grand only gets you 24Mp, it's the A7R III that's really impressive but at $3000, forget it!

24mp is actually more than enough for most of us... And 24mp in a FF BSI sensor will probably have amazing low light capability. If Iwas looking for a FF camera I would definitely be considering the A7III, even though I don't really like EVFs...

Maybe, CR. Since getting the 36Mp K-1, my 24Mp A7 stays in the cupboard.
