If I were buying a new A7III, the Tamron would be my choice for walkaround. I will be interested in seeing your assessment when you get it.

Interesting. The previous model Tammy 28-75 f/2.8 is one of my favourite lenses, albeit more on APS-C rather than full-frame (I'm a little odd, it seems, in really enjoying that focal length range for APS-C). If the new FE keeps the same overall rendering character but improves on performance, it'll be a winner.

I also have the 28-75 in K-mount. And it has been superb for shooting weddings. Though being used on APS-C. I will be happy if keeps the same performance too.

This will help sell more Sony A7iii units. I hope Pentax can have access to new modern Tamron and Sigma lenses.

That's a pretty bold assumption. Will it sell more Sony A7IIIs or fewer Sony 28-75MM F2.8 lenses?

I can see it both ways. The question in relation to Pentax, would be, will the sales in cameras make up for the loss of sales in Pentax branded lenses.

I'm not sure anyone knows the answer to that. Especially since there is a rebranded Tamron 24-70 which is pretty much the same price as the Tamron version and is a more useful focal range. If that range would help Pentax it already is.

Not every lens announcement by Tamron or Sigma has to be a report on how they no longer make lenses for Pentax. By now, it's old news.

I added Sony A7RIII to my arsenals and I barely touch my Pentax anymore. The weight, speed, AF, IQ, ease of mobile app use etc are just way ahead of Pentax. I'll probably sell some of my Pentax lenses to fund the A7III as my backup camera.
As fas as Tamron, even though 24mm would have been very useful when I talked to someone at Tamron, they said, they wanted to keep the weight and price down. 24mm would be a bit heavier and more expensive.

Its not the lens. Its the A7III that he has. Other than landscape & architectural photography, the A7III is the better camera for most people. Add a light weight, low cost 28-75mm F/2.8 that is really sharp.....

For general use and wedding/event photography, I'll take an A7III with this lens over the K-1 and the D-FA 24-70mm (also made by Tamron) anytime. Unless I plan on shooting in the pouring rain... Then I go with Pentax.

I'm a fan of Sony cameras, but I'd respectfully challenge that statement.

A lot of people just don't like electronic viewfinders (even very good ones) and prefer a good optical viewfinder. I like both, but I can fully appreciate that they're not for everyone.

On top of that, despite improved weather & dust resistance, the port covers on the A7 MkIII remain poorly protected. We all know that no camera is weather "proof", but I'd feel happier taking my chances with a K-1 / K-1II and AW lenses, as you've indicated.

That said, the A7 MkIII is undoubtedly a very fine camera. Not without its flaws, but impressive nonetheless

is not about the K mount... is that Sony glass is expensive.. and having this Tamron, and also the new Sigma primes available in the Sony mount makes this camera system very very very attractive in terms of performance and $$$$$ .. in a short time, Sony will have all the modern pimes that Pentax dont have ( and we dont even know when will it happen.. or even if it's going to happen at all ).. That's the main reason.. not just the 28-75 thing.. is everything that involves Tamron and Sigma looking at the Sony mount having good glass at better prices than the Sony brand lenses.
