This is a fascinating development; I'd been wondering if they'd had sufficient foresight for the EOS-M mount to cover "FF". I wonder how far they are from a "FF" MILC.

So... Canon shooters are likely to have to replace all their lenses again.

Not necessarily.

I'm expecting Canon to come out with another adapter.

Even if they don't, only the people who decide to go MILC will be affected.

The current mount isn't going anywhere.

How many active mounts will Canon have once this turns into a product?
EF, EF-S, EOS-M + now this. Confusing.

I don't think it is confusing. No more than DA DA* FA FA* D-FA and D-FA*..

EF and EF-S are very similar (same flange and throat diameter). EF-M is much smaller but only designed for APS-C sensors. This new mount makes sense if Canon is looking to introduce a Full Frame mirrorless body.

As reh321 mentions, there will very likely be an adapter offered so no one is without their deep and pricey lens collection. So it really isn't a problem.

I hope so and i hope they sell those "old, obsolete L lenses" for a pittance!

In DSLR's, Nikon's F and Pentax K all just mechanically work and shoot. Sony (A and E) and Canon have it relatively messy.

All of the above (DX vs FX, FE vs E vs A, DA vs FA etc etc) is perenially confusing to new camera buyers.

Canon does not seem to leave any opportunity to make more money. I hope they treat their loyal customer base fairly.

I don't know that it is quite the same thing. With Pentax, all of the lenses mount on the same mount without an adapter. The only thing you have to figure out is which ones are full frame versus crop. With Canon, you will have three different mounts, all with slightly different (but similar) names.

To me, that is more confusing (but clearly able to be figure out).

Apparently there is a rumor amongst Canon users that they are proceding on a camera "mount" that can handle EF, EF-S, and the new lenses
