Tamron to bring a 17-35 F2.8-4 for full frame:

【?】????「17-35mm F/2.8-4 Di OSD」???|?????????

17-35mm F / 2.8-4 Di OSD (Model A037)

  • English catalog (PDF)
  • Mount: Nikon, Canon
  • Lens construction: 15 sheets 10 group
  • Minimum focusing distance: 0.28m
  • Maximum magnification: 1: 4.9
  • Filter size: 77mm
  • Size: φ83.6mm × 92.5mm (for Canon)
  • Weight: 460g

If Ricoh can get them to make a Pentax licensed version It would be a great compact alternative to the D FA* 15-30

They won't make a Pentax mount version, because there is no money in it for them. Pentax can't change that.

It certainly would be a great alternative, half the weight, and (hopefully) half the price... but sadly what @victormeldrew said is true. Lool at the latest realeses from tamron like the 35, 45 and 85mm f1.8 or the 24-70 & 70-200 G2, only available for canikon...

There is some marketing appeal to having this be released as a Pentax re-badge, minus the stabilization.

Sigma have long vacated the Pentax full-frame consumer zoom space, so why not.

I know Tamron won't bring out K-mount lenses anymore. I mean it could be a HD Pentax D FA 17-35 WR. Like the 15-30 and 24-70 which are also made by Tamron.

The think is, the G2 are only almost as good as the best OEM lenses, and the price of G2 version have settled down a bit. Lets see what second hand deals come up in the next couple of years.

Has it occurred to anyone that the license agreement with Ricoh may in fact prohibit them from releasing a Pentax mount lens? They don't risk much by not releasing and Pentax brand lenses have less competition which helps keep prices intact etc.

I noticed that the lens currently does not offer the K-mount version; hopefully Ricoh can come up with similar lens DFA limited to 20-40 2.8-4 or like this range. That would be super sweet... as I am using the DA 20-40 ltd on my k-1 frequently.

It makes a lot of sense... and that leaves us with our hands tied and few or none alternatives

Considering the older A03 17-35 f2.8-4 is already very good considering it's age. I'm pretty sure this one will be a killer.

I tend to think the KAF4 was made (among other things) to simplify lens production and outsourcing (or third party production).
In the long run, maybe Tamron will do some k-mount batch.

In this regard, it's handy to remember that the Tamron lens assembly plant is only about 20km away from the Pentax lens assembly plant in Hanoi. So outsourcing or partnering with Tamron can be very easy for Ricoh, if need be.
