Olympus just invested 50 million USD in their production facilaties. I wonder why? My wild guess is that they will come with a fullframe mirrorless E-mount camera and join this war and strenghten Sony.
Availability of lenses of the new entrants versus Sony is critical, that will define if Sony will keep the leadership or fall behind in terms of market share. Having another company join the E-mount would effectively be a barrier for Nikon/Canon to compete.

Considering current inventories of F-mount and EF-mount lenses, proper adapters would easily surmount that "barrier" ... and in another two days we'll start to know about the F-mount entry.

I doubt it, but it is possible that they have reached the end of where micro four thirds can take them.

Maybe they will release a full frame SLR! The Olympus E5 sequel we all have been waiting for...

There is a possibility that OLY will launch a different format.Their sales of M43 are down and that size sensor has its limitations.

There are some unreliable rumours of them going FF,with a "big" announcement early in 2019.

Oly closed one of its plants, theres a thread around here.Yes, closed China and Vietnam is the main manufacturing plant.

certainly works for Sony - I'm sure the recent cameras are very good, but I haven't seen so many star-struck reviewers and vloggers since the high point of Minolta

Its a Nikon SCUD missle.

Well,if these leaked specs and prices are correct,$$$ony have won this round.

Single card slot for HOW MUCH money???...Yes adapter to F mount may come "free" but its built into the price.

When I was a college student, there was an {American} football game between two universities - one named MSU and one named ND - which would decide the 'mythical' {voted} national championship. Toward the end of the game, tied 10-10, ND "let the air out of the ball", they played very conservatively, because they though a tie would good enough for them, and they certainly didn't want to lose. The game ended with that 10-10 tie, and ND's confidence in the voters was rewarded with yet another National Championship for ND. Do not assume that the field is level here - Nikon could still have a reputation advantage. Nikon could actually know what they are doing - we shall see over time.

And the Adapter isnt FREE!

Just watched the launch, they did a good job....It will be a good system but not a game changer.

The Lens roadmap looks quite nice.
