Nikon D700 uses Pentax processor?

Despite being nearly a decade old, the Nikon D700 is still praised for its image quality. I was watching a clip on Youtube that said that the D700 uses a processor made by Pentax. If that is the case, that might explain its great image quality as I find most Nikon DSLRs have a certain clinical aspect to their IQ. In fact, it was exactly that that made me switch over to Pentax.

Can anyone confirm if in fact the D700 processor is made by Pentax?

Pentax does not manufacture sensors or processors. Pentax, and Nikon, buy sensors from Sony (Nikon has used Toshiba, Pentax Samsung).

The image processors for both Pentax (PRIME) and Nikon (Expeed) are based on the Fujitsu (Socionext after 2015) Milbeaut.

I have never hear about it. I hear from other hand that some Nikon processor was base for Pentax DSLR, probably D700, but I am not sure model now.

My understanding is that both Pentax and Nikon DSLR's use the same Sony sensors...both Pentax and Nikon do their own individual tweaking.

Thanks for the updates. I know about the sensors but this was specifically a reference to the processor. There is nothing in the specifications from Nikon about the processor.

Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised as the images from my D700 do have a certain Pentax look about them.

The D850 and newer cameras (except the D3500, which is a D3400 with a new chasis) are using sensors made by a filial of Panasonic, the same that makes sensors for Leica. That explains a whole lot of things, especially when looking at the raws (Leica color raws are exceptionally noisy even at very low ISO!). Sony has competitors in many fronts...

Funny as the D850 and D500 has a Sony product number on the sensor

The D700 uses the Nikon NCB8133*L sensor that is also used in the D3.

The only Nikon cameras that use Toshiba sensors are the D5200, D7100, D7200. The D5 is also manufactured By Toshiba using Nikon IP, Nikon used them as a foundry and sony continued the contract to finish the supply when they bought out Toshiba

This is really unlikely, I believe the wrong information ...

Fanboy talk. Put a Takumar, Zeiss or Nikkor G lens on a Nikon camera and you will get different looks. The sharpness and clarity of digital in general means a "clinical look".

Clinical to me refers to colour depth balance and rendering. Saying there are clarity and sharpness differences would need to be demonstrate. Clinical refers to a more sterile look, lacking warmth. The only two cameras we have for comparison, with eh Pentax Optio W10 and Nikon 130 AW the difference is so dramatic, my wife won't even use the Nikon. She calls it "a total waste of money." It's sad when you can't mention what you prefer about a Pentax product without being called fanboy.

It's rude , it's insulting, it should be banned.

I see difference between my Nikkor zooms and primes (zooms have the more clinical look). And I see differences using my M42 screw mount Takumar and Zeiss glass on my F-mount camera. So give those lenses a try and tell me what you think.

Also, Nikon has the following color profiles to select in the RAW editor and they also make a big difference. All suck except Neutral and Portrait.
  • Camera Flat
  • Camera Landscape
  • Camera Neutral
  • Camera Portrait
  • Camera Standard
  • Camera Vivid

You own the lenses, why aren't you doing the comparison?

When I want to test these kinds of statements I take comparison images and run a poll. That way, I know it's not just me.

Because you told me I was wrong. So see for yourself.
