Sony A7iii lens and/or adapter advice needed

My daughter is attending SCAD (Cinematography) and could benefit from an upgrade from her Canon T6s for video purposes. There are a lot of Sony users in that arena and we recently rented one (A7iii and the 16-35 f2.8 lens) and she loves it, mainly for the low light capabilities. All in all, it seems like the best bang for the buck for her needs.

For her Canon, I had picked up the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 DC lens which she is enamored with also. The focal range is perfect for what she does in video. The Sony 16-35 f2.8 was very nice but has a very nice price tag to go with it (more than the A7iii body). Given that she primarily goes full manual in video, I was thinking of picking a decent native lens for the occasional portrait work she does along with an (inexpensive) adapter (and one or more manual lenses) for video work. Other than a few older Nikkor lenses, neither of us have any real incumbent glass to force us in a particular direction.

This whole mirror-less / adapter concept has opened up too many options for me to decipher. But I do like my Nikon film bodies, so choosing something consistent down that path has some merit, especially if sharing is possible. Depending on how things progress (for me), I will look to full frame or bigger perhaps and the glass opportunities are really appealing in ILC-land. Other than the 43 Ltd, I have no FF Pentax glass; but thatís another topic...

Given the above, does the basic kit lens plus adapter philosophy makes sense? Anything that Iím missing? Any advice on adapters?

Thanks in advance.

Z

TechArt Pro and Fotodiox both produce a AF adapter for $$$ony, its native mount is a Leica(M) but it has many seconadary insert mounts for a huge variety of glass Pentax K andM42,Canon EF,Nikon...the list goes on.

Fotodiox copied the TechArt so the Firmware updates from TA work for FD.

Both recommend lenses no heavier than 700gms,however theres a YouTube video showing the Nikon 400mm @ 2.8kgs working effectively with support.

Check their websites and there is plenty of YT footage and from memory, the 18-35mm Sigma is on YT.
