The Olympus OM-D E-M5. My daughter bought one last year and we compared it to my K-30 for a week, with the 14-150 and 18-135 lenses. It wasn't a controlled test, but night time pictures around a campfire were better on my K-30 and the lag in the M5's viewfinder is definitely noticeable. Neither camera is particularly good with fast moving objects, even though the Olympus has a higher frame rate. Never compared video, but I'm sure the M5 is better and it is quite a bit smaller as a body and lens package than the K-30. If someone doesn't like to hold and carry a DSLR, I think the M5 is an excellent choice.
I think newer bodies show much more improvement in terms of speed, af and stabilization, as well as a myriad of other features. I also had an older Oly - original EM1, but they supported that body with a lot of firmware updates, and it didn't feel old. But, looking at what the new flagships can do, i think for good light they're fairly competitive with likes of d500 and other high performance cameras.

If i had spare budget, i'd get Oly Pen-F (what a gorgeous little camera), and oly 17 1.8 for a small street kit (that looks totally awesome as well )

i just picked up an em1 mark 2, and the AF is at least 5 times faster than the k3. the oly can lock focus faster than you can even perceive it happening, if it didn't have a confirmation beep you wouldn't think it had done anything. if you just press the shutter release, it'll focus and take the shot nearly instantly. the k3 would have a lag of at least 1/3 to 1/2 a second, no question.

maybe the m5 is a touch slower, but there's no way it's slower than a k3. the AF misery is the reason i switched, and the reason i have an em1 is that it's the closest feature set i could get to my k3.

How many M43 users are buying super telephoto lenses? Iím thinking the number is quite low. Cell phones donít have to attract that user, who is quite a specialist, they just have to attract enough of the more mundane users to make a big enough dent in camera sales.
I purchased my Q-7 specifically to use with a something-300mm lens, to get a system similar to what a SX-50 would have given me. I would attach a something-300 lens to my smart phone if it came with an appropriate mount and it provided a means to focus the lens surely.

M4/3 isn't going anywhere. The advantages that M4/3 offer have not changed and smaller sensors usually get the technology advances 1st. Olympus is about to launch the OMD-EM1X in 3 days and it appears to be a bold move. I don't think they would make a M4/3 body with a built-in v-grip unless they had something pretty special. Rumored to be $3,000 it had better be pretty special.
