I opened it today, taking unboxing photos, and then tried it out. I don't want to give too much away in this thread... I'm saving it for the review. I'll admit, it has a few early firmware glitches. But the image quality is quite unlike anything I've previously witnessed...
So...is it fair to say that the way it renders images renders you speechless?

BigMacCam is like a true Pentax rep. Not telling much in advance. Some Kenspo optimist and some Asahiman cryptic, and like Ricoh i hope some surprises.
Our job is to have 50 pages of speculation.

Just keep looking at the lens cap that says "Camera". Quite often it is not the equipment but the user if something doesn't seem to deliver.

Speechless would be an accurate description, yes indeed - followed by hesitant gasps of disbelief, then uncontrollable smiling (some of it audible). And when a camera makes you smile this much, you know you've found something quite unique...

Are you suggesting I'm "working the crowd"? Well, OK... perhaps just a little bit

Well said... And my first tests today clearly highlighted my own limitations. Give me a consumer or "pro-sumer" camera, and I can turn out a decent photo without too much effort. But this really is a different level of equipment entirely, as evidenced by my early attempts with it. More shooting scheduled for tomorrow, including a clip or two for the video folks, and then I'll get cracking on the review

That's a good enough recommendation for me. I'm going to be listing my entire collection of Phase One gear on ebay tomorrow morning(*).

(*Consisting of one lens cap that I found out on the moor last year.)

Ha ha

Did you really find a Phase One lens cap out on the moor? Given the price of their equipment, you ought to get that on eBay... You could buy a nice old K-mount lens with the funds

With most being created AFTER the big reveal.

Give me two or three days... then I'll publish the review, and wild speculation can begin in earnest...

If you think about it, 40 years ago none of us could have afforded this camera. Now we laugh at it as junk. It has better image quality than the video cameras we sent to the moon with the Apollo missions. Not as robust, but better image quality.

Having a bunch of these would probably be fun. Give them to guests at a wedding reception to take shots and ask for the memory cards when they leave.

I'm a third of the way into writing my review, so don't want to give any more away at this stage. However, I think you and others will smile when presented with the images this new model captures. I can safely say, none of my other cameras produces anything like them. And there's something for the video folks to enjoy too, for even with my lack of video experience, I've learned that one doesn't need to spend thousands of dollars to capture jaw-dropping video footage...

Shaggy dog gag?

My review promises to blow the doors wide open and finally reveal what $26 can buy these days...

I remember when one had to pay extra for the "professional black finish".
