HASSELBLAD strikes back.X1D-100.

The FF mirrorless war rages on but 645 enters the next phase.

The X1D-50 was quite cute but had many hiccups and is discontinued,Sony's 100mp sensor will be used in the next Hassy.
Possibly on the market late 2019(but thats a rumour).

Fuji's official announcement of the GFX-100 is a week away.

The new must-have camera for every gear collector who wants. . . no, needs. . . needs so bad it hurts. . . to be able to print test shots of brick walls and his pet cat five feet wide at 300 dpi. So that he can then start calling $4000 lenses "unusably bad" because the single pixel at the furthest bottom left of the image isn't critically sharp.

Oops, I seem to have woken up grumpy this morning. More coffee needed, methinks.

100MP is the entry level of the Sony BSI medium format sensors: IMX461 (33mm x 44mm, 100MP) and IMX411 (40.4mm x 53.7mm, 150MP).

The former generation was FSI: IMX161 (33mm x 44mm, 50MP - that's the sensor of the Pentax 645Z) and IMX211 (40.4mm x 53.7mm, 100MP).

For what it's worth IMX211 would do me just fine. I'd love to see a full frame 645 sensor in the new Pentax, and I can't imagine 100MP disappointing anyone for resolution in the printed image.

In a recent interview,Fuji revealed that their glass is designed for well over 100mp.Perhaps they have this sensor in mind?Of course it would mean a different mount.

I don't think so because it would mean not only a different mount but also different optical formulas to cover the larger image circle.

I simply think they have the next iteration of Sony sensors in mind. IMX161/211 were from 2013, IMX461/411 from 2018. If developments keep on going at the same pace the next generation will appear around 2023 and the Fujinon G lenses launched from 2016 onwards shall measure up to them.

The same sensors are available to everyone. The question is what camera they choose to build around them and the quality of glass that goes with them.
