It's a Pentax K-01 concept (no EVF, CDAF) with a L mount and full frame 24Mp. Pentax K-01 was a flop at the time , because no one had been brainwashed with the mirrorless thing. The K-01 was too early. In 2019 anything that's got a mirrorless sticker on it will be promoted. People brains of 2019 associate "mirrorless" = "good", the electrical path in the brain has been wired, it wasn't so at the time of the K-01.

The K-01 isn't modular in any way but a finished camera.

It's a shame Ricoh didn't do this first as it would have been completely on brand considering the GXR.

By the way, there is a link between Pentax and the Sigma fp and this link is Kimio Tanaka, the car and celebrity photographer, a bit of a maverick, who is very close to Ricoh Imaging and has often been involved with Ricoh Imaging / Pentax events and promotions, such as interviewing Ricoh Imaging's Tetsuya Iwasaki four times during CP+.

Tanaka-san is the one who hinted yesterday on Twitter at today's 'one more thing', the announcement of the Sigma fp by Kazuti Yamaki, Sigma owner, chairman and CEO. Hence the link I'm making.

Today Tanaka-san twitted that the Sigma fp will be an inexpensive camera for what it cost for Sigma to make it.

He explained that 'making a small, high-performance camera was more expensive than expected. Not only money but also advanced technology were required. SIGMA went all-out.'

The K-01 had controversial styling and ergonomics, poor AF, and a high price. It was also bulky compared to most mirrorless cameras that eschewed a sizeable grip. My entry level Olympus cost half the price and had better AF performance, and small lenses to match its diminutive size.

Pentax subsequently released a firmware update that significantly improved AF performance, but the damage was done. Pentax shot themselves in the foot.

I say this as someone who likes the K-01 so much that after mine died I bought another. But the K-01's poor reputation has nothing to do with consumers' brains being "wired"; Pentax released an odd duck of a camera that was essentially unfinished.

Ok. We are in 2019, when was the K-01 released? I guess Ricoh could do much better now.

2012 for the K-01, back in the Hoya daze.

I'm sure Pentax could create a wonderful K-01 successor if they cared to. But Pentax needs to get the new APS-C DSLR out the door, work on the K-1 II successor, and the medium format garden needs tending. No time or resources for mirrorless now, I think.

Anyway, I guess this Sigma lp is a precursor to Sigma releasing small L-mount primes... I haven't been following L-mount news too much.

The video tells me that there will be a new camera that will accept a plethora of lenses, requires an add-on module to support flash, and may be attached to a plethora of camera support rigs (yawn).

The Sigma 45mm f2.8 l-mount lens seems pretty small. Every other l-mount lens that I've seen is far from small, light, or "affordable". Not sure how much fun it will be to hold this camera with most of the lenses available for it mounted on it.

Pentax K-02, where are you?

K-01 uses K mount, which is the reason we consider it is a real Pentax camera.
FP is for video more than for still image. It is a very difference device.

I still believe Pentax's mirror-less should still use K mount, so we can still use the old lenses. And Pentax can release some new lenses that perturb into the mirror box. this way, we can have a nice mirror less camera with good size of grip, EFV, and still be small when have lens mounted.

My two cents, so grains of salt at the ready; I seriously doubt anyone wants to purchase k-mount lenses that are body specific to a K-01 successor. I would take one only if it was given to me for free if I already owned that camera.

So you would rather have a complete different mount MLC and you can not use any of your lenses on it?

I believe most will vote for a camera that is compatible to older lens, but also has it new designed compact lenses at FL between 18-100.

No, I want a k-mount mirrorless ILC. I want to use the lenses I already own along with possibly new lenses as applicable but I don't want to lock in on a single body. You're basically doing something just as drastic as creating a new mount with this "recessed lens".

No, I believe Pentax had a try on K-01 already. The 40XS is one of the lenses. We can have a 20-40 based on the same idea, make better use of the empty space of the mirror box, only leave two rings outside (and some space for grabbing the lens for mounting). Then a 70/2.4 xs .... we can still use the limit and any lens we love.

In fact, same K-01, just make the body much thinner, and let the mount sticks out, so the grip could be much deeper..add an EVF, improved AF..
