Sony a9 II announced

As announced by DPR, who I will not link:

Same thing as before, with some improvements to AF tracking (new processor, apparently), some touches to improve handling and improved weather sealing and ergonomics*.

B&H has it listed here for just shy of $4500: Sony Alpha a9 II Mirrorless Digital Camera (a9II Body) ILCE9M2/B

*Those dials still look uncomfortable, they should really take notes from, well, literally anyone else

From reading some of the hilarious comments on the other forum, it seems like a lot of folks have been angered by this release. Hahahaha!

It's definitely out of reach for me, so I really have no interest in it.

It is the kind of upgrade such as from the K1 to the K1 Mk II. Still the same 24Mp sensor at only 20 frames per sec. I was expecting improvement such as 42Mpixels at 30 frames per sec.

For 4500 bucks I could get:

K-1 (~1000 very lightly used)
D-FA 28-105 (500)
FA 43 Ltd (400)

D-FA 150-450 (2000)
Samyang 24/1.4 (~600)

Like, wow, that's a lot of gear. It's not even what I *would* buy, I don't need the 150-450!

Suppose that lot of other was expecting the same. I just wonder if this is it. We know that Sony is able to pull out the best tech out there.

But what if tech is not going to get any better, for few yrs. They have reached the max. Next thing is to try to get rid of lag(compared to OVF). Lot of people are talking about superiority and rest of it is almost fantasy. But what if this is where it the end of big tech advantage actually is? Maybe that could make people even more upset. Higher MPX don't really bring more on the table when you need performance.

Honestly, the camera still looks uncomfortable. It's just a small box. Now it's just a bit more comfortable box.

I'd rather spend the money elswhere (i.e. travel) and continue using my kit. Or maybe get the Sony RX100 mk7. Lol.

No sure, I would also never think of spending 4500 on gear, and definitely not in one sitting . I have zero need for the 150-450, for example.

A thousand euros or so gets you a flight and a week of stay in a lot of lovely places, and that generally gives you better pics than a lens.

I don’t get all this complaining about not enough megapixels. No matter what camera is being announced and no matter on what photography rumor/tech site there is always someone who thinks the new model doesn’t have enough megapixels. I guess at least 99% of all pictures taken with A9 cameras are either printed in magazines and newspapers or published online because that is the market for this camera. And for this market which this camera is built for 24MP is more than enough. I guess to most pros that are using the A9 a new sensor with 42 instead of 24 megapixels wouldn’t be an improvement but even a disadvantage because of much more demanding and time consuming post processing and file storing. The right tool for the right purpose. There are people that need more megapixels but there are other cameras made for them.

I think there was a pinch of sarcasm involved. I totally agree with that, 24 MP is more than enough for general use.

It's a camera with a lot of small, but welcome improvements. I would love to have the better mechanical shutter and slightly improved control layout and build quality, but I won't be upgrading any time in the near future. The A9 has yet to let me down in any way. Maybe the A9III.

The A9 is 2 years old, so not an old camera and the A9II improvements are really aimed at professional sports photographers who need the connectivity and speed. For those of us shooting events, weddings, & portraits the A9II doesn't offer much. The new mechanical shutter is really the only feature that they have added that I want, but it's not worth upgrading for that. Its a refined A9 that Sony needed to have on the market for the 2020 Olympics in Japan. I'm glad they released it and some of the comments made during their conference call were good to hear. This will put more used A9 bodies on the market and that will help grow the user base and market share.

And people complained about the K1 vs the K1 Mk2 lol

With the A9 is $3500 (lower in a few months) vs A9MK2'S $4500 to most is a big difference in price, and Im sure alot of people wont upgrade for what is pretty much a A9 Mark 1.5 because of that big price difference.
