New Tamron plastic fantastic primes

Anyone had a look at the $350 MTF's... All f2.8's but still.

Optics are getting pretty good and Pentax has it's work cut out.

Unfamiliar with these, those results were all at f 2.8 is that the maximum? What format?

They aren't out yet. Brand new launch. They are all 2.8 primes. So slow but to be sold for $350 with in lens motors and what looks like very good performance. My kind of launch if the reviews stack up.

These look rather nice. Not especially fast, but f/2.8 is OK. I especially like that the aspherical elements are moulded glass... Ground would be better still, but even moulded should result in better alignment than synthetic elements grafted onto glass.

~~Wouldn't it be nice if Pentax worked out co-operation with Tamron to re-brand these and offer them with HD coatings?~~

I see these are for E-mount...

Unfortunately not available for the Z mount and RF mount. It's a mistake to select a brand of camera based on a camera model or based on one lens. A few more years are still required to have the full picture of the lens selection for each of the new mirrorless mounts. Then it will be great to combine some modern compact primes with compact & modern FF body.

I'll be surprised if Z and RF mount versions aren't offered soon enough... unless, of course, Nikon and Canon are somehow resisting / preventing third party development of lenses for their platforms. With Sigma officially covering L-mount, Tamron will want to capitalise on Z and RF...

The Tamron 35mm at f2.8 has better mtf than the dfa* 50mm at f4. Not saying it will be better before any reviews but initials are looking good.

Not quite WR, but nice. Top of my wish list that Pentax will never build is a 20-something mm WR compact prime.

I've seen the demand for that kind of lens for Pentax many times, since 2016, but for some reason we've seen nothing from Ricoh. They've prioritized the D-FA*50, that I wasn't interested in. We've had that HD-FA 35 f2 this year, not interested either since the D-FA28-105 covers 35mm well, with silent & quick focus. The two primes I've been dreaming off were 20mm and 85mm, none available.

I think a 20mm-ish lens is on the roadmap, so there is hope!

We all know the roadmapped 85mm is going to be brilliant and huge and very expensive. If the 20mm ever materializes it probably will be, too. All I want is a DA 21mm LTD WR.

Just use the da21 it regardless of weather. You'll be able to buy a few second hand da21's for the price of the new FF 20mm. It's not made of sugar and can handle quite a lot. I don't use mine when it's pouring down but it's seen an awful lot of drizzle.
