Canon Says There Is Still High Demand for DSLRs, Which May Delay Professional Mirrorless Model | Fstoppers

Interesting how Nikon and Canon are finding mirrorless reception a bit more tepid than they projected.

That would correlate with a report (possibly erroneous or unsubstantiated) that suggests pro photographers (title and plurality taken from aforementioned unsubstantiated report) are ditching (permanence of status unconfirmed) and returning (permanence of status unconfirmed) to DSLR (although this could be read as any camera system other than that widely entitled "mirrorless")

Sorry for the avoidance of definitive statements, but there appears to be a proliferation of members, awaiting the opportunity to jump on or slag off those who's opinion may conflict, so I am covering my derrière

Is this partly due to the fact that the Olympics 2020 is approaching? Professional sports photographers may be familiar with DSLR more than recent mirrorless models and their companies also have collections of lenses for Canon EF mount as well as Nikon FX mount.

In comparison to EVF, OVF introduces no lag in seeing through a viewfinder; this is very beneficial to sports photographers. In term of power consumption, OVF requires less power. Shooting with a mirrorless camera, one may need to prepare a lot of spare batteries to cover the whole game in sports.

Anyway, both DSLR and mirrorless cameras have their own pros and cons.

In fairness, it may delay the uptake of a 'pro' mirrorless, but it shouldn't delay them making one (after all they want to be ahead of the game when that uptake takes-off don't they)?

Maybe they finally realized it is not a game and the future is not where one side takes all. Both dslr and mirrorless designs can co-exist as long as there is demand.

Some advice just in from the legal department, Cerebum, use the word 'alleged' a lot.

The benefits to some of a realtime, lagless optical viewfinder not throwing up a series of JPGs to the eye were laughed at by some when a Ricoh executive said it, but when Canon say it too …
