It's announced, the ball is in Nikon's court to see what they can counter with.
I doubt Nikon will counter; this is a camera designed for 'long white' lenses. The upcoming Nikon camera - the D780 - is a more pedestrian long-awaited camera.

That's right, those patents that match the lens road map may end up like some other companies roadmap...non existent!
You got it. Canon is regularly in the top five worldwide in it's number of patents awarded (4000 or more in some recent years) but dwarfed by the number they apply for that may or may not get granted, even exceeding those filed by the vaunted Apple. Tens of thousands being applied for every year, and only a portion of those will ever become essential to a shipping product.

Nice Camera, but I doubt a lot of Pentax users would pay this kind of money, even if it came with all those features.
If you're considering camera's at that price point, it is probably your job.

Lens Rentals. "Roger's Take":

"As great as it is, I still wish it was a 1.3 crop. At 18 Mpix you aren’t going to want to crop the images and for a lot of people that means the high price of the camera will be accompanied by the high price of some longer lenses. That combination seems to be preventing a rush to buy this camera"

Funny thing is,its similar release price as the mk 2 was, so people who got that 4 years ago and want/need the new features are the ones to buy it.Its the PRO model sports/action/wildlife Canon Dslr and those longer lenses get rented when the Pros need them.Buying those lenses is indeed costly, the rich enthusiasts buy them.
