Being that this lens is for a FF camera that 800mm ƒ11 will give you the same level of low light performance as a 500mm ƒ7.3. while this is not the fastest lens it would be a welcome tool to someone that wants a prime lens that will not break the bank at $899 and as a second lens when someone does not need the use of a 800 ƒ5.6 all of the time.

It had better be decent wide open. You couldn't really afford to stop it down...

(Personally, I prefer a zoom, the times I would only want to shoot at 800mm aren't great in number).

That 85/2 Macro only does 1:2 magnification. Not weather-sealed, either.

It looks like the 600 & 800 lenses have a fixed aperture of f/11.

You can’t stop down, it’s fixed F11.

I haven’t seen any 8k recording times from Canon so maybe they are not that long because of heat build up. Will be nice to get the full specs on the 9th.
Apparently a 512GB card will fill up in about 21 minutes shooting 8K.

They may be good for the people who want to shoot birds at their backyard feeders but that is probably it. Maybe the people who bought the RP will pick one of theses up but I don’t see to many people ordering it with their R5.

I just got the news letter from B&H. The 45 MP R5 will launch at a price of $3899 - $4999; the 20 MP R6 will launch at a price of $2499 - $3599. The are accepting pre-orders so hurry so you can be at the top of the line...

Yes,I'm one of those people and thinking that I will go and test it out.

The weight of the Sigma Sports 150/600 is just under 4kgs,RP + 600 will be 1.4kgs.

I wish they would have just used two CFexpress cards in the R5, I hate having two types of cards in my Canon bodies. I have to use three different types of cards between my 5dsr and 1DX2. I don’t know why they do that but it is annoying.

The R5 is interesting will have to see what type of blackout it has in the view finder before I consider picking one up.

Great to see Canon finally going all in and R5 has some nice specs, but 8K is still not a hot spec. I know some people will want to shoot 8K to future-proof their work, but that is a very small number and they have the money to buy better equipment. Really high quality 4K is going to have a much larger market. The glass announcements aren't anything to get excited about. The prices are definitely a premium. I don't see this being the big win that Canon needed.

Not at this point in time, but be prepared to wait for firmware updates and the world economic situation to recover and the market will decide.

Not now that a consumer camera has it.

Yes,shooting in 8K or 5K(R6) and downsampling to 4K provides that.

The prices are!.For 600/800..the same FOV F4 glass starts around 12-14k.Weighs a ton and needs its own backpack. The limitations are the speed of course. The 85 looks pretty good from all the reports Ive read. The 100/500 can be TCd up to 700 or 1000 and used in crop at 17mp(sound familiar?).

I think if Canon had gone with 2 CF Express card slots I would really like the R5. I know that seems petty, but having to deal with 2 different media types really annoys me. I hate that both SCXD slots on my A9s are not UHS-II. At this price point I want them to both be CF Express. I don't care about the video specs, but the rest of the camera looks really good. I don't have any reason to switch but I'm glad Canon is stepping up with a much improved body over the RF. I really didn't care much for the RF or the R. Now Sony can finally get off their behinds and get the A7sIII on the shelves. Panasonic is also expected to update on of their bodies soon. With all teh doom and gloom in the industry its good to see a few companies still pushing the limits.

The R5 will conquer the new uncertain or those who abandon the other brands, the R6 is for professionals this is clear, given the prices and performance.
Canon as I said may not be likeable but over the years it has conquered an audience of professionals and not, really enviable.
A friend of mine said that Nikon is dead, wait I'm sure Nikon will soon present the counter-proposal.
Also because Sony & Fuji and Panasonic are not at the window. Of course I'm waiting for (Ricoh) Pentax's next moves.

If you haven't seen this Mont Blanc show.
