I know there are a lot of interesting new lenses coming, still I wanted f1.4 at 50mm and 85mm and this is covered by the rf 1.2 lenses. When Sigma builds its Art series for rf natively it's a different story for me. This is my very personal budget line, nothing generally applicabely. It is not about the lenses not being there, just that they are a bit too high tier for my amateur budget.
Again, I'm not arguing about the 2 slot cards.
This is a different perspective from person to person and I also prefer to have 2 slots if possible.
Same when comes to handling.
As for low budget, all EF lenses work very well with adapter. Some L lenses like 50mm f1.2L can be found quite cheap second hand. I for example shoot for day to day with 35mm f2 and 85mm f1.8 on EOS R, with adapter. When comes to paid work, I rent the 28-70mm f2L which is a beast and I also use EF 16-35mm f2.8L III and EF 85mm f1.4L in case I need it, both with adapter that work flawlessly.
I'm waiting to see what lenses are coming next this year for RF mount and when comes black friday I will start to invest in RF lenses based on my needs. It's the first time I'm considering to buy the 70-200mm f2.8 given the size and weight. The 28-70mm f2 is a lens that I won't buy because it's distracting given the size for clients at corporate events. It's also heavy. It's just that the quality of the files are gorgeous and save God that renting this lens for 2 days costs in Romania 35 euro or 40$.
When comes to switching systems I strongly suggest that everyone should rent first or borrow the gear that they are interested in. I'm lucky enough to go out much with people shooting different systems and for me switching will imply 2 things:
1. lenses - I find lenses to be the most important aspect for me and even if the new RF lenses are expensive, they deliver; the same is valid for EF Canon L lenses
2. the system behind the camera I like - this was one of the main reasons I went from Pentax to Canon; the other reason I didn't go to Nikon is that a few close friends of mine are shooting Canon and I was used with their cameras and lenses (I also don't like in some situations the Nikon skin tones)
I can be happy these days shooting with just about any gear, except maybe Olympus which I find expensive for what it provides, but as long as the system I invested in covers pretty much everything I need, switching systems it's a waste of time. Some of my EF lenses need replacement due to heavy use so I'm good to go when comes to RF lenses to replace the EF ones I have used intensely.
