In the short term its watching and learning,I wont be paying the prices in OZ at the moment. My gear is adequate.(for now).

A funny story,I went to a camera shop to feel the weight of a K-1(5/13/2016,an unlucky day).I thought, its not so heavy, but it was for the bank balance. That store is a Canon dealer too,I'm not going there to feel the R5 weight!

Yes, but surely Sigma and Tamron are working hard at reverse engineering.
I'm sure they will. Has there been enough R-mount bodies sold for them to justify releasing glass at this time? Maybe in 3 years Sigma or Tamron will release glass for Canon/Nikon mirrorless, but it depends on sales. I expect the Canon system to sell well, but I also expect Sigma to wait until they system is more established and we start to see more used bodies on the secondary markets.

At this time,I dont really know. BUT,considering the R5 is the HOTest selling camera in Japan right now(so i read on a canon rumour site). I think Sig/Tam should be developing R mounts.

Plenty of dslr Canon shooters have been waiting for 5/6 to arrive, sales in the present economic circumstances will be down on normal so 3rd party lens makers have time on their side(3-5years I'm guessing till normality).

No overheat in 8K,with fan workaround indoors.

Well,a $12 amazon usb fan directed in the correct way has enabled over 90 mins of 8K recording.

This is a long video but his conclusion(1h.42min) is all that matters.

Picked up the R5 yesterday and took it out this afternoon. Wanted to try out the animal eye AF and found some chipmunks going in and out of the bushes very fast. The eye AF tracked them very good, it's not perfect it did lose them sometimes and a couple times couldn't find them at all but it was in very difficult situations with small fast animals that didn't fill the frame even with a 600mm F4. It definitely tracked better than I could do with my 1DX2, looking forward to try it on larger animals and on bald eagles fishing.

One full frame and one crop shot.

TWO new lenses are imminent.

According to some Nokishita leaks the 50mmf1.8(very compact) and the 70-200f4 IS will be announced in a few days.

The 50 is small, light and hopefully cheap as the EF version.

That 50mm is frightening. Finally delivering on the compact milc promise. If it's a good lens reasonably priced it will indeed make Pentax a hard sell. Canon could of course make a so so lens to protect the high end but they could equally make a great lens if they want to. I'm not sure how much tech has improved for compact primes but I'm guessing the FA 50 f1.4 won't look so good in comparisons including price.

Yeah, but the FA 50/1.4 is what, 55 years old? AFAIK it's the same optical design as the 1965 7-element Takumar 50/1.4

It'll be interesting to see how Canon does their "lighter" lenses after seeing how their crown jewels look. The 85/2 macro is still large and heavy compared to, say, the 100mm macro WR.
