The Zeiss Zx1 at ..... $6,000

It was announced in 2018.

ZEISS ZX1 Digital Camera B&H Photo Video

What I would LOVE is a FA 31 ltd stuck on a small FF body that cost about $2,000 as a fixed lens camera. That will kill Leica Q2. As for this Zeiss costing $6,000 - what are they thinking ? Bigger than Q2, and with a lens not as fast as that of Q2, and the thing is bigger in size than Q2. A7c costing mere $1,799 (without a lens), who would buy it at $6,000???

I see Canon is pushing their "most compact FF mirror less" with a 24-105 f4-7.1...

Goodness me, that's a pretty restrictive maximum aperture. I hope it's good wide open

$6,000 coupled with the ergonomics of an hors devours plate. No doubt the glass is top notch, but I see form and brand cache trumping usability here.

Yea, but it doesn't need a memory card and shoots 4K video, oh wait, my iphone does that too.

It's pretty boxy.

It was initially forecasted to be around $4,800, and now $6,000. For that kind money for a point and shoot, it better does my taxes and laundry and take kids to school.

But don't you need a lightroom subscription to use it?

A Gr looks like an absolute steal by comparison. Ok, I get that this is full frame, but come on...

Ok. After reading more I have observations. 1) the integration and software look to be much better than most cameras. This I like. 2) a leaf shutter doing 1/8000 (is that right???) of a second and offering sync flash up to that speed is pretty interesting. 3) my that's a big high resolution screen.

The Leica lens however is faster (by a small margin) and wider (not always appreciated). The Leica sensor is also higher resolution, and the camera has faster fps (10 vs 3). The Leica "only" has 1/500 sec flash sync. The screen is smaller but the q2 can also use a tablet or phone to remotely control the camera for editing etc.

Me I think the Leica is overpriced and it looks to be better priced than the Zeiss.

One-offs like this never wok, imho. The technology is beyond the average camera/optical outfit, and often so is the marketing. Sales are modest. Soon the manufacturer is losing interest, updates and bug fixes slide and within 18-24 months the item is on its way to paperweight status. I can see this idea working as a new camera OS but only when launched as a consortium platform with some big players on board, and with the expertise, size and funding to build out something longer term.

IMO i'd rather get the Sony RX1 if I really really wanted a FF compact.. Hovewer, GRIII is a monster camera and it fits in my pocket. I'm collecting a bunch of accessories for it that make it even better and more versitile)

Yup LR is integrated within the camera thus the need for a glorified screen for editing.

Synch flash is certainly interesting but with supposedly great low light performance of the sensor I wonder how often you feel compelled to use a flash. Leica is ALWAY overpriced. But the cost of the equivalent lens in itself will cost almost as much as the entire Q2. It is kinda like getting a free body. Zeiss lenses are certainly grand but at $6,000 I st feel like I am getting ripped off.

You get a Zeiss lens with that as well. I think RX1 is a heck of a camera.
