Nikon D750 Question

I see the Nikon D750 is still sold new at B&H, Best Buy etc., even though it has been out a while.

It seems highly rated. Does it have some sort of magic dust that has kept it selling new so long after release, or does Nikon just have a ton of them in inventory to sell?

There is a body with fewer than 500 shutter releases for sale locally. I have been considering adding a body just for access to their considerable accessories and affordable used gear.

No one but Nikon knows for sure but in recent years both Nikon and Canon have had excess stock on my local shelves. Sometimes with multiple generations of older bodies still available new. My impression was that they continued to produce at a rate that was in excess of demand in a declining market.
But that's just my impression from what I saw on shelves.

The 24mp FX camera has recently been replaced by the D780 but Nikon tends to continue to sell older cameras for a while.

With the down turn for the camera market, camera manufacturers probably have a lot of old inventory that they still need to sell...

It is a strong set of features in body with decent ergo at an affordable price.

24 MP full frame sony sensor (pleasant DR) with 6.5 fps and a 51 point AF with a proven tracking system. It isn't the newest, it isn't the best, it's a goldilocks camera for a lot of people. Jack of all trades.

For years it was popular in the wedding scene for its set of features.

The D780 supersedes it, but the differences are minimal for the photog. Most of the updates are to the video / live view side it seems. And they took away contacts for the portrait grip.

Nikon sold the D810 at retail too at a lower price point than the D850 that replaced it in the line as well for a couple of years. Just how Nikon operates.

I own one. The reason it still sells is because it’s a very well rounded camera that still keeps up fine. It’s sort of a Goldilocks camera in filling photography needs.

24mp sensor is barely different then all the mirrorless cameras in performance. DR and ISO still great.
51 Point AF is solid, 3D tracking AF-C works very well. Basically you need for nothing more there.
6.5 FPS fast enough
It’s well built but still fairly lightweight. Weather sealed.

Basically you don’t need for more with it unless you just want tons of megapixels.

The D780 is basically the same camera but with the Z6 AF in the liveview which has been enhanced. It lost the onboard flash.

I’ve seen the D750 on sale recently for 999 and 1500. It’s a very solid camera for those prices. The lens selection is huge with all the third party’s in F mount. Telephoto’s in the 150-600 range are plentiful and good performers for 900-1200 dollars depending on which so you can purchase a D750 and a telephoto for the same price as the Pentax 150-450 lens.

But I still think that this problem of overproduction exists. Last month there was an action at Olympus. When buying a M1M2 camera, Pro F / 1.2 lens as a gift ...

Olympus looks like it’s a fire sale of EM1 stock before JIP does what every they have planned with them.

Nikon just sells a lot of D750’s as it’’s still a good camera for 1500. I’d still recommend that or a D500 and Tamron 150-600 G2 for telephoto needs. Weather sealed combo for about $2500. Considering the 150-450 is $2000 alone. Then just keep Pentax for everything else that doesn’t need the AF-C.
