Rollop (Germany) made a number of TLRs in the 1950s.
Is Zenit still around? Mir? Lubitel?
Lots of oldies like Adox Polomat, Bilora Bella, Comet, Franka, Hunter.
I had a Topcon RE2 for years. Best camera I ever had. Must've been mad to sell it.
Looking through the For Sale section of Australian Camera magazine dated December 1992 I see a few cameras by Goko and the pano camera called Widelux. I think they're both gone now. The Widelux was a weirdo machine. The lens sat in a turret that swiveled through 140 degrees. There was no shutter, just a variable-speed clockwork motor that turned the lens and a slit in the back sort of wiped the image onto the film as the lens swiveled.
BTW, in that same magazine an LX was in the $2,001-$3,000 range!

Yes, but the company is more diverse sort of like Minolta. Minolta closed their camera plant but are still around. The sold the factory to Sony which is why Sony had to comp up with the Alpha name. However, Ricoh has some other cameras and not just the P&S, but they are for special purposes. Rumor has it Ricoh is panning a compact k-mount camera.

Interesting point you make about Sony using the "Alpha" name. I don't know how many recall this, but Alpha was the name of a very expensive Swiss made SLR 35 mm camera a number of years ago.

I believe the Swiss Alpha is a dead and gone.

Regarding the possible compact Ricoh with a K mount. That is exciting news for many of us Hopefully they would give it a decent sized sensor...this might have the potential be an almost Leica like camera (small, high quality) which could mount Pentax Limited lenses with a K mount.

Thanks for the info. , hopefully the Ricoh rumour is correct.

They actually use the symbol for alpha. I just don't know how to do the symbols without importing from Word etc. This Swiss camera is spelled Alpa and are still around I think. I too scarred to look at the price of digital Alpa.

AFAIK The Two Russian factories are not making any cameras...But the MIR was a stripped down Zorki 4, and was not made for Export.(no slow shutter speeds). I had one for a short time, There were made between 1959-1961 and less than 420k were made. the Zorki 4, however had over 4 million made. And was the largest production RF in Russia..It had a 1:1 RF/VF with diopter adjustment. And was very similar in size to the M3. without a rapid advance lever. The Zorki 5 and 6 had a rapid advance lever.

Clarus. Based in Minneapolis, MN they only made one model, the MS-35. Sold from 1946 to 1952. link

My dad picked up his (below) in '47 while he was hopping between Hawaii, Guam and Korea. I ran a roll of Neopan thru it last week to see how the shutter springs(?) are holding up.

Another dead camera brand is Altix cameras, they were made in Germany from 1938 - 1959 by Eho-Altissa.

The expensive Swiss SLR was Alpa, not Alpha. They're still in business: Alpa

Back in the day I had a Beauty. Yes, really! It was a generic Japanese rangefinder, a quite good f1.9 50mm Cantar lens - I think that was the name, Seikosha shutter, rapid wind, etc. Nice camera, good results till the shutter "blew" up.

I also had and still have a Komaflex S. 127 film single lens reflex, leaf shutter, f2.8 4 element lens. Waist level finder. Excellent performer, it now needs TLC, since the auto diaphragm won't close down. With the scarcity of 127 film and cost of its repair it is, sadly, a shelf queen.

And don't forget Taron. I still have one, somewhere.....

Seeing as this thread was brought back from the dead I can add more brands

Seneca

Holga

One brand for almost a century the other just a couple of months. I have and use both brands.
