Dead camera brands

I was thinking it would be a neat idea to list all of the camera brands that don't exist anymore. Here's the first one that I can think of:

Contax

My understanding is that the Yashica name got sold to some folks in Hong Kong. There is absolutely no connection of any sort with the old Yashica company and the folks who currently own the rights to the name.....other than the name itself. As you can see from the few comments on the bottom of the article you linked to, their ruse to sell products by fooling people into thinking that the old Yashica company is back in business has worked on at least a few folks.

I believe the rights to the Polaroid name have suffered a similar fate.

That approach worked out pretty well for the new "Voigtlander". (Though I have to say they're making an effort there to actually produce gear that deserves a good name...)

You might still be able to buy them, but they are weeks away from closing down their manufacturing and dissolving the business.

You could probably spend a good deal of time covering deceased Pentax relatives: Asahiflex (before it was Pentax) and Tower for instance.

asahiflex wasn't a relative it was simply a camera model manufactured by Asahi Optical. no different than any other camera that came after it. Tower was a brad owned by sears, but they put the tower name on a number of cameras, not all manufactured by Asahi Optical.
