I have a 40D. And one lens. 85mm at f1.8 seems to be all I need 95% of the time.

I'll probably pick up a cheap kit zoom for wideangle.

Now that I think of it, I also have an old Powershot A10. 1.3 megapixels. Oldschool, man.

Are you sure your "official thread" designation actually works like that?

My current gear is in my sig, but I've also owned a couple of 10Ds, a 20D and a 300D. Shot with lots of others.

My 50D is dedicated to the 400/5.6 (literally, I have not used another lens on it even once). The 1Ds2 usually ends up with the 24-105 as my oversized point-and-shoot. The 85, 50 and 15-30 are pulled out when needed.

I miss my 20D.

I was wondering why you got the 50D instead of the 40D though?

I've chronicled it elsewhere, but basically the 50D is a far better camera. Huge jump in resolution (and don't believe dpreview's crap review; look at cameralabs for instance), killer LCD, focus microadjust. For us birders the extra megapixels are very nice to have when you need to crop heavily. Some pros claim the autofocus is updated too, but to be honest I can't tell any real difference from the 40D there.

I've owned a 5D Mark II for less than a week now but I love it. It makes me realize how much I'd have liked it if Pentax put out a FF camera. Parking the thing on ISO 3200 for some night shots around town is so liberating.

My daughter has just got a 50D for her photography & film degree at Napier Uni in Edinburgh (Uni only has Canon loan lenses available).

Yes, birds mostly, I have a great area here for eagles in the late fall and winter my keeper rate should go up a good bit. Lately it's been Herons
