OK, you guys had me curious enough.. I went to our photo forum and picked and image with exif intact. In OPanda it shows "Lens focal length: 50mm" and "Focal length in 35mm film: 75mm". This was taken with a K20D. My 50D shot only has "Lens focal length: 400mm".

So it appears Pentax adds a second exif tag with the "equivalent focal length" data. I don't like these conversions since they are very misleading if people don't understand what they represent, but the "Lens focal length" field which is the real key is unaltered.

In photoME Canon 5D mkI photos also show an equivilent to 35mm format focal length.

like this:

200*mm*(equiv. 201*mm)

OMG! does this mean the 5D is not really full frame! Now I just don't know what to think!

------

no I am not serious...

No sign of equivalents in PhotoME on the 50D shot either.. weird.

KungPOW, can you check this image

and see what it says? Maybe your version of PhotoME does that calculation and mine doesn't...

I'm having second thoughts

I'm having second thoughts. I was certain I'd never buy another crop format dslr. Now I'm getting the concept of more megapixel benefit on a smaller 1.6x sensor. Maybe I will get a 7D when its shed some price. It would be a heck of a deal for $400-$500 less than list. Its remained instock at B&H for like 10 days now, same with 5D Mark II. Always instock thesedays.

Beautiful photo.

The EXIF focal length just says 400mm. No equivilent length given.

The data fields are also different between the two cameras. The 5D has a bunch of fields the 50D does not. The 50D might has some the 5D doesn't. I didn't look that close.

I'll agree on this one
