40d died, long live the 50d (bird pics)

Thanks to Adorama who gave me a refund on my 40d refurb that died I was able to get a 50d for a couple hundred more (new). I got an extra warranty because my luck with camera gear has not been so good. I process the 50d files pretty much like my k20d files. I thought I would share a couple since I got the body all dialed in for my couple of telephoto lenses a couple days ago.I'm happy

Very nice bird photos. Are you using the canon 400mm f5.6 lens?
A lot of people switch to canon just for that lens.

Thank You Kent,
Yes I have the 400mm f5.6 and recently was lucky enough to get a 300mm f2.8 IS. I had to sell a lot of stuff to swing it though. : )

Very nice. Can you comment a bit on your technique? Did you have to use a blind, or could you stroll around and catch them whenever possible? It looks like you were able to get really close in a few of these shots.

Hi PentaxPoke
I don't have a blind, I just try to get lucky. I might get a little blind this spring, there are a couple Kingfishers I have been chasing that make me crazy.: )

Great bird shots, those are very sharp. The 50D is a wonderful camera.

Thanks LeDave,
I wasn't sure if I would like the 50d as much as the 40d, but it really is better. The extra pixels are nice as I was used to my k20d and ability to crop some if needed.

The whole time I owned a 40D I wished I had the 50D for more "K20D-like" IQ with the 40D's speed (just wasn't in the economic cards, sadly). Glad to see you're enjoying yours!
