New Fujifilm F80EXR sensor size

hi, I saw, in dprw.com that some new fujifilm cameras were announced..
what interests me is this new compact with large super ccd EXR sensor.. they say that the sensor size is 1/2" so.. could anyone illustrate me this size in comparison to 2/3 or 4/3 or APS-C
thanks..

1/2.3" - ~ 6.16*4.62 mm. one of the smallest now.

Half a foot? Oh no, the 645D is going to look stupid compared to this

Complete list here: Sensor Sizes: Camera System: Glossary: Learn: Digital Photography Review

1/2" is, as you would expect, between 1/2.3" and 1/1.8" in size, i.e. tiny.

Furthermore, it is 12 MP on the same chip size that previously was 10 MP, so unsurprisingly, the pictures look like garbage and display obvious noise reduction artifacts, even at base ISO, even on the sample JPEGS Fujifilm has up for marketing purposes.

1" = 12.8*9.6 mm :ugh:

1/2" = 6.4*4.8 mm

It could be interesting 1" sensor, but I don't know such sensor.

My F200EXR with 1/1.6" 12MP CCD produce decent shots at iso400 6MP, and sometimes good iso800 6MP shots if exposed properly but often quite grainy. Consider the F70/80EXR have smaller sensors, it is safe to assume they had inferior image quality. It would be nice if they used existing technology producing a decent 6MP iso800 compact, instead of chasing more MP.

Yeah i'm pretty disappointed about my f80EXR but only because i had such high expectations for it. I was hoping it would at least match the fujifilm f100fd being that its almost 2 years newer technology. Overall i still consider it better than anything Pentax has in terms of P&S. I refuse to buy anything C or N.

Another Fijifilm camera unveiled today is the HS10... with a 30x non-interchangeable zoom lens. Fantastic features, manual control, manual zoom and 10fps at full resolution... but still with a 1/2.3 sensor.

Now, granted, this is a backlit sensor. But even with the latest image processing algorithms, how good could the image quality be in low light and/or at higher ISOs? Fuji says the sensor features "...a 200% increase in sensitivity over a conventional CMOS sensor." That would be two stops, correct? Meaning ISO 1600 would look like ISO 400... on a 1/2.3 sensor, right?

That's certainly welcome... but the camera is $500 - meaning pretty stiff competition from the Panasonic G1 and the Samsung NX10. Of course, one would need more lenses with any of the EVIL cameras.

Considering that they were introducing similarly-specced (relative to the state of the art, of course) cameras at around $1k just a few years ago, I think it's a good sign.

It is incredible how vendors get away with giving confusing information about a core feature of their products. One would assume that consumer protection organisations would have stopped this nonsense long ago ...

So, why not advertizing a 42" HTDV as 63" ?

TVs used to be "mislabeled" in that say a 32" TV might only have a 29" visible diagonal.

Yeah, but try this with a digital flat screen ...

I am still puzzled that P&S industry gets away with this ...
