Nikon D700 as a backup!!!

I am thinking about getting a Nikon D700 as my back up, I've got the chance to play with it a little bit, definitely like it a lot, but didn't have the chance to attach the battery grip.
what do yall think? shall I get it?

Sure if money is not an issue..D700 would be your main unit unless of course you have a D3s as your main unit..
Budget wise - Stick w/ your system.. If your system is Nikon get a nikon. if Pentax get a Pentax..

I have a few Pentax lenses that I might be letting go, then I'd have a good amount of money for a couple of Nikon lenses... Thinking about selling me 31mm limited, Tokina 28-80mm/2.8, possibly FA* 70-200mm/2.8 if I would get the 70-200mm.2.8 VR II for D700. D700 would be my sports and low light camera

I dunno. As the previous poster said a Nikon D 700 full frame would usually only be thought of as a 'backup' for a Nikon 3s, D3x.

With a D700 full frame...would you really keep your Pentax system ?

I think my Pentax is going to be my backup system, I would probably keep my FA* 28-70/2.8, 77mm limited, 100mm Macro WR and my K-7(will upgrade to the next one when it comes out)

Try the Kx if you're not using flash. It has the best high iso in the APS-C right now and maybe below just 1 stop than the D700. You got your FA31 and FA77 w/ the Kx. That could save you more $ than buying the Nikon D700 and having two systems.

I will definitely give that a thought, I might be able to score a decent price on the D700, possibly half of the retailed price at new... who knows, we will see. But K-x would be a great idea, only thing concerns me is the AA batteries...

You mean new D700 for half a retail price?

Why would AA batteries concern you?

The K-x with eneloops got far better battery life than my D700 with its proprietary battery.

AA's are not an issue if you buy the right ones. I've been using Eneloops in mine without any issues. If it's going to be a long day, then pick up a set of Lithiums and you'll get over 1900 shots on one set. This camera is now my high ISO/faster AF body to go with a pair of K20D's for wedding work. Very capable camera at a fraction of the cost.

Thanks for the advice, definitely taking into considerations...

now I may consider to get rid of my K-7 and get K-x, wish there is a battery grip for K-x, I do enjoy bigger bodies... and thats if I can get the D700 for the half of it's retailed price...
