Sounds reasonable, I think. I don't remember how much the G1 was priced when it was developed, but I know that the G2 costs a lot less than the GH1 (that's the one that it's supposed to be replacing, right? The G10 is the entry level one?).

not too bad, but was hoping they could make it a little bit more affordable.

True, and I don't doubt that they have the ability to sell the M4/3 cameras at a cheaper price point. The catch is at this point they don't have to; it is a niche product that is selling extremely well at the moment.

Yeah, I was hoping that G10 was going to be a cost-cutter, not cost nearly as much as the original G1.

GH2 replaces GH1

GH2 replaces GH1, likely at Photokina 2010 in September:

Metal body instead of plastic, touch screen, next generation venus sensor, are among the rumored specs. Panasonic seems to leak accurate rumours to a couple m4/3 blogs so I'd say you can assume the rumors are 100% true.

I agree the prices of G2 are disappointing, but as panasonic and olympus take 20% marketshare they are building a loyal following so they can inflate the launch prices. Kinda like Pentax does with its dslrs, $1299 becomes $699 for those who wait some 9 months to buy new technology. Though Panasonic has yet to cut their prices in half like Pentax does with cameras

G1 launched at $799 with kit lens.
GH1 launched at $1499 with HD kit lens

I assume GH2 will launch at $1499 with newer version HD kit lens, one without external switches. That would be better for touch screen commands.

I haven't seen any rumors about this, but if it was a metal body and gave people a reason to upgrade (which Panasonic isn't doing very well at the moment) then people might actually buy it.

The G1 is currently $623 at BH with kit lens. The G2 and G10 pricing will make it interesting regarding the remaining G1 stock.
