This is possibly a sign of what's to come. At some point, viruses will eventually infect phones, cameras, cars etc.

Edit: They already infect phones.

Infected flash memory is a fact of life in many parts of the world. I received a digital picture frame (Memorex brand) last year that had a virus on-board. My daughter bought a name-brand SD card in India that was also virus equipped.

Rumor has it that these infections are happening late in the manufacturing process by employees, possibly even the testers.

ubiquitous computing + viral attacks = ePidemics

Before long, an overwhelming proportion of manufactured products will be chipped and linked, susceptible to infection. The implications have been explored in SciFi for awhile. What do you do when your kitchen appliances go viral? Your pacemaker? (My mother-in-law's pacemaker is re-tuned via telephone.) And when technological civilization is utterly dependent on insecure comms and buggy warez that can be exploited by malware, is a global system crash inevitable?

Have a nice day.
