Perhaps not Pentax news - D7000 samples on IR

I just wanted to say that there are D7000 samples up on Imaging Resource for those that want to get a good look at the sensor that's "the same one" in the K-5 - it may give you a good idea of what to expect.

One thing I wanted to comment on was that the Nikon boys and indeed JohnBee had been proclaiming that the the D7000 and K-5 relatively are D700 rivaling in the ISO noise department. Well, to my eyes, the noise levels look about the same but there is definitely more detail in the D700 JPEGs (the red fabric holds way more information on the D700). What do you think?

At ISO 6400 (D7000 left, D700 right):

Shouldn't this be posted here? Nothing related to Pentax at all.

Ok, well please move it then - although this is about the sensor more than the camera, a sensor which is very much a hot topic just now.

Thanks for the heads-up! I think the K-5 is going to look even better from what I've seen so far (more evenly distributed noise).

The D700 still hold about a 2/3rds to 1 stop advantage in noise over the D7000. I find the D7000 shots to be smudgier due to more NR being applied. While you would have a harder time seeing it in a normal sized print it is quite noticeable at 100%. They can only push the sensor so far, and while they have struck a pretty good balance, larger pixels will always beat smaller ones apples to apples.
